Cancer sux

My favorite Brother In Law (younger brother of my wife) is on his last legs.
Pancreas cancer.
Unlike me, he do not smoke, do not drink, eats healthy and he is also pious (with very regular attendance to the church) all his life.
Yet now the doctor told us that he only have a few days left.

Cancer sucks.

My wife and I are travelling back to Jakarta next Monday to see him, hopefully we are not late.

Cancer is not pretty. Chances of survival increases with early diagnosis. Treatments are much improved today than they were just a few years ago. I had a friend who is 70. He was securing a boat after he trailered it, lost his balance, and fell head first onto the payment. He was unconscious for 10 minutes. When they took him to the hospital for an MRI, besides the concussion, they found he had multiple myeloma. He got his final cancer treatment to kill off his immune system followed by his stemcell transplant this week. He is one hurting dude but alive to see another day. He is in isolation for another 3 weeks then seclusion and rebuilding for a year.

gelandangan, I hope you and the family get to say a peaceful goodbye. May God speed him on his journey sans pain.

Darwin...that is terribly sad news mate...and even worse for Suzy. Cancer is an insidious and nasty affliction mate, and it “treats” its host badly, very badly.

I’ve seen the effects of cancer first hand and it’s heartbreaking to see a good person suffer like that, especially one who has led a pure life like your brother-in-law. As Slim said, treatments are improving all the time, but until they can identify and deal with the root cause of the different cancers, we are at the mercy of them.

Please pass on my commiserations and prayers to your family mate, and when the time comes for him to shed his mortal coils, I hope his passing is swift and painless as his uffering ends and he moves into the eternal care of our Lord Jesus Christ.

kia kaha Mate (be strong) its a horrible time but as Vince has said...he will be going on to a better place. you be strong for your good wife,she will need your shoulder to cry on.

So sorry to hear that mate.

My wife lost her husband to leukemia, I lost my wife to 3 bouts of breast cancer and my Dad to liver cancer.

Not much more to add over what has previously been said. Thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

One of these days I may share a recent "miracle" I was eye witness to with my father.

Thanks guys for your thoughts and prayers.

The doctor last night told us that the time is near.
Susana is already on the plane this morning, whereas since I already have a ticket to Bali (previously planned holiday for both of us) I will travel to bali tomorrow and take connecting flight to Jakarta on Monday.

Apologies to Mike (Elvis) and my fellow admins, I cannot help much on the forum right now since currently I only have my mobile phone to contact.

Thank you friends for your prayers and thoughts.

We got a couple of days to say goodbye, my Brother In Law Ferryanto Siaw passed away 8.55 am Wednesday 27th.

I learned first hand on the "New Age" Indonesian bureaucracy concerning the cremation of a Christian in a Muslim majority country.
Appalling indeed.

Never mind, we are back home now.
Life goes on.
