I load all of my reloads with one powder at one charge weight regardless of bullet weight.
That is to say that for 223 I use 25grains of powder for 50-55-60-69-75-77grain bullets, all with Rem 7.5 primers

Why do you do it that way?

There is a danger that you will be under powered for the heavier bullets and over powered for the lighter ones. Part of getting the right load is not for the terminal energy but for it's stability. Different twist rates in barrels require different bullet weights and velocity's. So i'm wondering why you load that way.

Just curious

WW748 or IMR4320?

I think I would put my money on the IMR4320. It seems to be better suited for that particular range of bullet weights with that charge.

Are you going to tell or is this just one of life's little teases, like that girl at the - OOPS! I don't know nothin' about no girl!

Hm, not sure if that is lazy or just plain silly.

Be interested to know why you do this. I can't imagine that the accuracy would be good with each different bullet weight, although the load would no doubt suit one or two of them, and it would be a nightmare trying to remember hold over/under distances.

Ah, I think PaulS got it right....you are pullin' our leg ain't ya. Either that or you are "fishing" to see how many bites you get.....oh well, 'spose I am #3. Laughing Laughing

Now PaulS.....about that girl............ Very Happy

Cheers, Vince

OK, I was fishing. I really don't load this way. That is no way to obtain the absolute best loading for a given bulet weight.

I lived in Colorado for several years and gave reloading seminars at a local gun shop/reloading supply store. There was a gentleman who frequented the store and would buy several boxes of the same caliber of bullets in different weights and an 8# keg of powder. When asked why, the opening post was his responce.

Hi MC223.....I first read the post and laughed.....then I got to thinking......at one time I shot cast .30cal loads through my .30/40 Krag service rifle. I used a universal load of 16 grains of 2400 for bullets dropped from NEI and Lyman molds. The weights differed by about 20 grains. Bullets were seated engraving the lands. I think the velocity with wheel weight alloys was about 1450-1650fps. The rifle shot like a .22 rimfire, in that you could fire a 100 rounds without cleaning or lead buildup.
At 100-200 yards, the sights were changed for the different bullets drops.

What time saving event would possess you load this way. I don't get it...other than making a small adjustment in your scale or measure. There are plenty of safe ways to speed up the loading process without using this method.

Not to mention your pressure would probably exceed safe limits with the heavy bullets.
