There's a zoo like wildlife area on Grouse Mt. in Vancoiuver, BC. Recently the government agency responsible for it decided to put gray wolves in the same compound with grizzly bears. They had been in an adjoining area, separated by a fence, for some time. It was obvious these two species wouldn't get along from the very beginning, few predators do. A big male grizzly was chewing on a cow bone when one of the wolves decided to help himself. One mighty swipe of a grizzlys paw made quick work of the wolf, killing it instantly in front of a rather large crowd. I'm beginning to think our wildlife management people are brain dead. Officials claimed they felt it would be good for the two species to learn to co-habitate, to get used to each others presence. Even in the few days before the fatal encounter the two were growling and threatening each other. It was just a matter of a little time before all hell broke loose. The wolves have now been removed back to their own area, but it's a little late now. It was kind of a hair-brained idea, but at least they niw know what won't work. I suspect many of us could have told them that. Best wishes.

That would be really neat to see. I wonder if someone has it on film? Very Happy Wow some peoples ideas really suprise me. They live in nature together, because they have millions of acres to avoid eachother, not because they like eachother.
Funny story thanks for posting.

I can see some "official" scratching his head in disbelief and saying: Well, I just don't understand it .... they get along just fine in the Disney movies. Shocked
OK, now let's see what happens when we put lions in with the lambs. Sad

Having met a couple of these wildlife management people in the field, all I can say is they need to spend a lot more time in the field and a lot less time shuffling paper. Then you have the group at Marine World that bring 600 lb siberian tigers into a school auditorium on a leash. Then they're surprised when the tiger attacks a kid.

Here (Tn) the problem isn't the field game wardens, they are all top notch. Our problem is the moron paper pushers in the capital making up moronic rules as they go along.

Probably not good to get Coyotehunter_1 and me going on stupid Tn regs and other acts of idiocy by the paper pushers. That's what makes stupid stunts like bears and wolves in the same cage believable that someone was retarded enough to do it. Too many city dwelling tree hugging "friends of nature" running around.

SHEESH! What did those folks do, put up neat little signs, saying "Y'all get along, now."? Where did they get their wildlife management credentials, Sears mail order? That has got to be the dumbest thing I've heard all day.

There is a clip of a zoo floating around the net reciently, that put a Lioness in with a black bear... not a really big bear unfortunately. I'd give credit to the poor blacky he didnt back down but he was no match for the Lioness and got tore up pretty good. The clip ended with both still alive but retired to opposite ends of the cage.

Absolutely reprehensible to purposely do that, expecially in a public zoo. Very depressing to watch
