Well,
Once again the elk and deer hunting gods smiled on me!
The bull came from unit 30 1st season, the deer from unit 60 2nd season.
I used my 300 RUM on both, 180 gr TSX. both 1 shot about 200 yds.
On the bull I hiked about 3.5 mi off the road and atv trails. I was able to
to get my atv fairly close after the fact , and after skinning and quartering
got him loaded and out in the same day.
The deer I hiked a long ways and was returning back to where I left my atv
and spotted him on a small ridge he was feeding off one side and then the other I played wrong side of the ridge several times. It was getting late
so I hiked up the middle of the ridge and caught him on top.
I can't stress how important wind direction is, If they can't smell you , you can do a lot of things .
Charlie

Good job. Nice bull and buck. I can only hope to be as fortunate on a forthcoming New Mexico mulie hunt.
What state?

Beautiful animals! How did those bullets hold up and how far did each go before they dropped?

Dallen C
Unit 30 is Douglass Pass, 1 unit east of 31 (Bookcliffs)
Unit 60 is By Gateway in the Manti La Salle Nat Forest
Worked hard for both critters

I have not ever had the privilege of a guided hunt or for that matter never
had a hunt on private property. There is enough public lands , to keep me busy. It's amazing what you see when you get far away from sounds of
atv's and vehicles, I like to hike into an area and do a cold camp for a
couple of days or as long as the weather doesn't get to testy.
But I do like to set up where I can get my little honda somewhat close
to minimize the meat back packing factor. I was able to get it about a mile
away, underneath the elk so I was able to get quarters down to it with few problems , ( last years bull was a 11 mi pack, boned it out and 6 trips later
it was out) here is picture of last years.
Feel free to ask questions as I enjoy helping people where to
hunt, as I get as much enjoyment out of other peoples successes
as I do my own

Nice Bull, Charlie. What State was that taken? I hunt non-guided. For Obvious reasons $$$. We usually Hunt Wyoming for Mule Deer, Medicine Bow Range. Region W. I would like to try other States . Montana is on my wish list as well.
Take Care: Jerry
