I found this on another site................ Idea Idea

So if the US government determines that it is against
the law for the words "under God" to be on our money, then,
so be it.

And if that same government decides that the "Ten
Commandments" are not to be used in or on a government
installation, then, so be it.

And since they already have prohibited any prayer in the
schools, on which they deem their authority, then so be it.

I say, "so be it," because I would like to be a law abiding
US citizen

I say, "so be it," because I would like to think that smarter
people than I are in positions to make good decisions.

I would like to think that those people have the American
Public's best interests at heart.

BUT, YOU KNOW WHAT ELSE I'D LIKE?

Since we can't pray to God, can't Trust in God and cannot
post His Commandments in Government buildings, I don't
believe the Government and its employees should
participate in the Easter and Christmas.... celebrations
which honor the God that our government is eliminating
from many facets of American life.

I'd like my mail delivered on Christmas, Good Friday,
Thanksgiving & Easter. After all, it's just another day

I'd like our Government to be in session on Christmas,
Good Friday, Thanksgiving & Easter as well as Sundays.
After all, it's just another day.

I'd like ALL Representatives to not have to worry about
getting home for the "Christmas Break." After all ~~~
it's just another day.

I'm thinking that a lot of my taxpayer dollars could be saved,
if all government offices & services would work on Christmas,
Good Friday & Easter. It shouldn't cost any overtime since
those would be just like any other day of the week to a
government that is trying to be "politically correct."

In fact....

I think that our government should work on Sundays (initially
set aside for worshiping God...) because, after all, our
government says that it should be just another day....

If this idea gets to enough people, maybe our elected
officials will stop giving in to the minority opinions and
begin, once again, to represent the majority" of ALL of
the people. SO BE IT...........

No one has banned prayer in our schools. Any student can pray at any time that is appropriate. What is banned is mandatory prayer led by the staff, and rightly so. After all I wouldn't want a Muslim teacher requiring my child to participate in their prayers any more than they would want to have to participate in our Christian prayers.

When our elected officials start taking away the rights of the minorities to bend to the majority the constitution will have failed. That document states that the government cannot specify any religion over any other. If you want "In God We Trust" then it is only fair that we put "In Allah we Trust" and "In Jahova We Trust" and "In Yahweh We Trust" and so on for every religion that exists. That would get out of hand very quickly but it is the only way to keep from showing preference to one over the others.
We all share the same rights and just because the majority wants to have their religious icons or their prayers in government funded institutions does not make it OK to do. The constitution says that the rights are "given by the Creator and government is only to protect those rights and others not listed in the constitution.
I believe that my religion is the right religion for me - just as everyone believs of their own religion. I firmly believe in God and that our rights are God given - and that those rights cover all people even if it is just one person in 900 million. He has the same rights as everyone else. I also believe that if we can deny that one person's rights then we have none. That would mean that the constitution of these United States has failed and its time for a new one. We are, each of us, free to practice our faith only as long as we don't tell others that they cannot do the same. We are all equal under the constitution. We each have equal protection of our rights. Not having "under God" in our pledge of allegence, on our money, and religious icons like the 10 commandments in government buildings is not taking away our right to believe and practice our own religion. Having them there does make it seem as though Christianity is the faith of the land. The USA has no religious attachments. we are free to practice the religion of our choice. If you want a Christian nation move to England where if you are not a member of the church of England you can't have a religious wedding - only the weddings performed by the Church of England are legal - all others have to have a civil ceremony held by a public official to have a legal marriage. Since there are few people in the USA that belong to the Church of England the rest of us would be the minority religion. That is why our founding fathers left England to begin with - social and religious persecution is allowed when there is a state church. I believe we are better off this way - even if it means that we can't put the ten commandments on the courthouse entrance or any of the rest. I can always add "Under God" when I say the pledge and I can still say "in God we trust" when I exchange money for goods. I don't feel the need to force my religion on any others because I don't want them forcing theirs on me.

Well, another interesting post.

I agree 100% with you guys...all of you, including PaulS.

Australia, like the USA is a Christian country...well that is the original religion. However, both are also democracies which means that we must by virtue of our political beliefs be accepting of all races, colours, creeds and religions. This is not to say that we have to agree with their ideals or beliefs, but we must be accept their right to their ideals and beliefs.

Now, this becomes a problem when the "new comers" decide that although our democratic tolerant country has accepted them into our midst they feel the need to become outspoken about their beliefs and put ours, read Christian, down because they don't agree with them. They then start to complain that they are treated as a minority group and that their kids are being exposed to things in school that they consider to be bad, read Christian Religion classes. Over here in Australia children are not compelled to attend these classes if it is different to their religion.

I was christened/baptised in the Church of England in Sydney and although I don't attend church still consider myself to be a C of E. Having said that I have attended services conducted by many religions, C of E, Baptist, Presbyterian, Bretheren, Roman Catholic, Greek Orthodox and Buddhist...all Christian with the exception of one. The one thing I have identified is that all of the religions I have had contact with have very similar basic beliefs. My parents are both C of E although my father used to say he was a "Callathumpian". I asked him what this meant and he said that he didn't believe in one particular religion, but all of the Christian religions.

I've had no contact with the Muslim or Islam religions, but have known people that subscribe to these religions and they are good people.

The biggest problems I see are the religious extremists, and also political extremists. These morons accept nothing other than their own beliefs...in fact everything else is totally wrong and should be wiped out as far as they are concerned. These idiots can, and do, come from every religion and political sector.

Finally, I believe that Australia, the USA and any other country that started as a Christian country is exactly that....Christian. People with other religious beliefs are welcome, but must accept that while we are accepting and tolerant of their religious practices they have chosen to live in a Christian society and MUST accept this....not try to convert all and sundry to their religion, or scream blue murder because they are in the minority.

There endeth my sermon for the month.

Cheers, Vince

Paul,

Sorry to argue with you but you mentioned the same Gods name a couple of times. Jehovah and Yahweh is the same god, a translation into English of the Jewish/Christians god's name ( יהוה ) into English. Smile

The reason we use the name "God" as Christians not the proper name as much is because of the Jewish belief not to say God's name which stuck with Christianity. Smile

And so is Allah. All four. God, Allah, Jahova and Yahweh are one and the same...Another reason I really don't understand why we are having so many problems in the Middle East...Well...Yeah...I do...The extremist... Mad

"In God we trust" is pretty much a general statement. All religions today, save one, believe in God. Christians believe that the only way to get to God is "through Christ"...which was endorsed by God Himself. And, yes, God has been referred to by the many names listed here in this thread. Now, some religious groups don't want "In God we trust" on our money. Some of these groups claim to be Christians. I find it peculiar that some don't want "In God we trust" written anywhere as it may offend someone? That we might be forcing our religious beliefs on someone else? Isn't God who we ALL seek? And praise? And are suppose to be the root of our faith? Isn't this what God asked of us to do?

No one is bothered by seeing "In God we trust", unless they are unbelievers in God. Anyone care to say they don't want God in their lives? Who has accepted Christ, to be called Christians?

Obviously, I'm not wanting anyone here to supply answers to any of my questions. It's just the irony I see here in reading what people have to say about God and Jesus Christ...who in fact are one of the same.
Keep it coming...

Awwww, gee, thanks 1895ss. Also, thanks Snipes old mate.

I always said that I would not discuss religion or politics, but sometimes it just has to be done.
