The "Gun Registration Act of 2007", House Bill No. 760, sponsored by State Representatives Angel Cruz (D-180), Rosita Youngblood (D-198), Cherelle Parker (D-200), Jake Wheatley (D-19), Lisa Bennington (D-21), and Lawrence Curry (D-154) has been introduced in Harrisburg.

This misguided proposal would require every gun in Pennsylvania to be registered annually with the state. The registration would cost law-abiding gun owners $10 per gun each year. Of course, criminals won’t pay anything BECAUSE CRIMINALS DON'T REGISTER GUNS! In fact, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled in Haynes v. U.S. (309 U.S. 85 (1968)) that since felons are prohibited from owning firearms, compelling them to register them would violate their 5th Amendment rights against self-incrimination. However, if a law-abiding gun owner fails to register it, he or she will be jailed and lose his or her Second Amendment rights FOREVER.

The measure would require each gun owner submit to fingerprinting, have a background check, and include passport-style photos for the registration cards. The registration card for each gun would then have to be carried with that gun at all times. To make matters worse, if the state should reject your application for any reason, YOUR GUNS WILL BE CONFISCATED!

like that stuff huh bushy?? scarier thought, there has been maybe a total of 30 seconds on the local news channels covering it... and the bad thing here is they have shown before, no matter what the sportsman say or do (petitions and the like) the reps will do as they want.. i think and believe they only represent themselves and thier own pockets

Did you ever wonder what would happen if those on a federal, county or city assistance program was prohibited from voting for anyone that might hold a public office with influence over amounts paid in assistance?

There would be no Democratic party. 90% of the voter strength of the Democrats lies with the assistance recipients. People voting for the person that promises to "give" them the most. Thus they are big in cities and the reason they want to put illegals on the rolls. If you want to stop the fight, go after the disease, not the symptom.

Assistance recipients living in the slums see anyone with a gun as a criminal, which is what they grow up with. The politicians use and prey on them just as surely as the criminal preys upon them.

I dont believe that this legislation will pass, however it is very disturbing. If it reaches Gov Rendells desk it will become law. It is amazing to me that a state with so many hunters and sportsmen (and women) went to the democrats in the last few presidential elections. Hopefully this will get the outrage it deserves from the gun owning and hunting community. I am somewhat ashamed to admit that PA is my home state with such idiots in office.

with this in mind tell me what law in history has done anything to deter criminals? none.

No laws that I can think of Morax, in fact I'm reminded of Edward Abbey's quote "the more corrupt a society the more numerous it's laws" but I can think of some legal policies that may have deterred criminal behaviour in the past...public executions.

i have always been a firm believer of public exacution of punishments. go back to "old school" thieves get a brand on thier hand as a thief, second time they loose the hand. betcha he wont take anything anymore huh.... bet the guy who was in the croud watching thinks twice about taking something that aint his!! people think i am a little too close to the crazy line when i start talking these things cause i get bugged on it... i doubt this will pass but what will they try for next that will pass yearly permits for pistols then yearly permits for shotguns.... you know too big a bite first time, but we can nibble at it a little at a time..

Morax...It has been proven that extreme punishments don't stop crime...It will still be with us. Altough if you are missing a hand at least I know who you really are. Capital punishment means that I don't have to feed, cloth and feed you for the rest of your miserible life. Also means that there is one less killer. I wonder if a theif can steal if he has no hands??? I've heard of hunt and peck typing, but never stump typing...

This has been introduced by rabid anti-gun politicians from Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. They are testing the waters to see what is possible. On a positive note, it will mobilize average hunters and shooters that thought their deer rifles and squirrel shotguns were "safe". The anti-gunners hate all firearms. They are willing to take half our guns now and half later.

Hunters, shooters, sportsmen and sportswomen are getting a taste of the current reality of the gun debate. The Schnecksville militia is opposed to this bill and is waiting to secede if it has a ghost of a chance of passing. Some of the original signers have removed their names from this despicable legislation. All the best...
