He is showing velocity differences with shorter barrel lengths. Interesting, is this an experiment you did or read about someone doing? It would be a great experiment but not to many people want to go sawing off chunks of barrel just to satisfy curiosity.

ahhh ok i got you now.. it is yet more proof stating you get more pressure from a longer barrel... and i bet you get a bigger flash and more UNBURNED powder from a shorter one too huh.

Gidday Kauko, how are you mate. I think this is one of them times when your English is lacking a little mate and we are confused. Laughing  Nobody seems to understand exactly what you are showing with your list.

Is it a list of loads that you have used in the past or are you showing different velocities from different length barrels?

I must admit, like the others I am a bit confused.

I think that your data is meant to look something like this. I don't think that the Forum software will accept a table. (Is this correct Dallan?)

Ruger 77V 22-250 24"-barrel:
PMC 55gr Pointet Soft Point:
24" 3617.
23" 3629.
22" 3569.
21" 3514.
20" 3491.
19" 3422.
18.5" 3416

Winchester 70 .264 W.M. 24"
Remington 140gr Core Lokt :
24" 2861.
23" 2910.
22" 2937.
21" 2892.
20" 2874"
19" 2952.
18.5" 2808

Remington 700 BDL .280 Rem. 22"
Remington 150gr Core Lokt :
22" 2786.
21" 2735.
20" 2708.
19" 2651.
18.5" 2635

Remington BDL .308 Win. 22".
Hornady 165gr Spire Point.
22" 2674.
21" 2636.
20" 2617.
19" 2595.
!8.5" 2589

Anyway mate, let us know and we'll get into it with you.

Cheers, Vince

Ok, Vince, understood. Nobody do´nt understand horizontal. It must be vertical. Those was guns, saw, maesure and ohler; no theory. Shall I delete. Ofcourse I shall do it. PS: There are smart people in Alaska and Australia. PS/2: My 22-250 gun has 23" long barrel and 12" rifling.(normal is 14"). I have many other barrel lenghts like those. They are pistol- and revolver barrels, but let it be. Thanks Vince.

OK, we know that velocities change with barrel length. but I have seen velocities 12.5% different with the same load in two different guns with the same length barrels. I still don't understand the point if there was one in all that data.
Are you just showing us your velocity changes with different barrels that you own?
Paul

Kauko, I found that data to be very interesting. Don't let the confusion of some keep you from posting experiments. Were these your personal firearms that you shortened? Were you going to rebarrel them? I will have to keep that experiment in mind if I ever decide to rebarrel any of my rifles. I wonder why stop at 18.5"? Is that the legal limit in your country? Interesting how the .264's velocity jumped a couple times as it was shortened. Are your figures the average of a string or just one shot for each barrel length?

That .264 win. mag. m/vel. jumped from too slow already due to barrel being too short. This is what part of the demise of the .264 was to begin with, when it was chambered in short barrels years ago. I think they were model 600 and 660 rifle models. Their muzzle blast, barrel jump, unburnt powders lying on the snow in front of them, vel.s not even up to a .270 win. is what helped kill their popularity. Personally I like the velocities I get out of mine with a 26" barrel, which it needs, and is much faster than the experiment above. If I was satisfied with vels. in the 2800-2900 range, I'd just shoot a swedish mauser. Wait most of them are faster than that, sorry. I'll stick around mid 3100 ft./sec. with no pressure problems any day with my 140 gr. loads.
