I don't know what to tell ya SwampFox, but I do know what to tell 1895zz..."Don't stand so close to the target 1895zz. Yer gittin' powder burns on the paper..."

I figure that 3 shots in a 3 inch orange dot at 100 yards is more then accurate for what I need that "Jack Handle" to do...

Winchester 94 with safety and warning, why? What in the world would make a grown person buy one? Never owned one, never intend to own one. It is like the 20ga for a kid, it kicks like the devil and is a real dumb thing to buy for a kid or yourself.

Swampy....Wash your mouth out !!! Surprised Shocked

My Model 94 is nice and accurate....it maintains "minute of pig, deer, dingo, dog, cat and fox" comfortably. 1" groups on a target at 100 yards is nothing to sneeze at for sure, but you don't need that level of accuracy for a 100-150 yd rifle. I believe that the kill zone on a medium sized deer is around 6"-8" so methinks that my Model 94 is more than adequate.

As Bushy says, and Tracker so elequently highlighted.....watch out for them powder burns on the target. They inspect all Marlin shooters for .30 caliber pens and punches when they go onto to range where I shoot.
Laughing Laughing Laughing Haha Haha

Marlin....thats a big fish isn't it? I know that there are plenty of Marlins in the sea out here in aussie, but if'n ya wanna see a Winchester Model 94 you have to wait until the hunters come home with their trophies and meat.
Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I guess I do not really have a favorite of the THOSE TWO lever guns, but I would vote for the Savage 99D in .250-3k that I made my best shot on a coyote with. HA HA HA! Personally though I do like both the Mod. 94 and the mod 1895. I have shot both and no preferance, both seem equal in my abilities. I also have no qualms about using a 20ga. The new 2 3/4" SST's from Hornady look very impressive to me, in 12 or 20. I have also heard that Les Bear is looking at a location in Iowa to build the new plant. Somewhere on the east coast of the state. Iowa has the Missouri River on most of the West side(which is at capacity and more right now thanks to ALOT of rain this past weekend, Look out folks downstream from me) and the Mississippi River on the east for most of the border, so the ground is on the east coast, HE HE HE.

Well look at this ............. I go work out of town for a couple of days and look at all the carrying on about 30 caliber pens, powder burns, fish etc. Laughing Go ahead and have your fun but all you WW owners are jealous that's all. Nananana You wish you had a firearm as accurate and dependable as our Marlins. Nananana Laughing Laughing Laughing Then again I guess somebody has to buy and shoot them inferior WW rifles cause shooting side by side with you fellows just shows as to how much more accurate our Marlins are. Thanks WW guys........... ROFL ROFL ROFL Hiding

My favorite shooting range has only eight benches for centerfire and is limited to 200yds, but, it is nice and cool being located at 5,280 feet elevation. Go there enough and shooters begin to recognise one another and conversations about the "gun of the day" go on endlessly. Yesterday was no exception as one of the surprising rifles was a Marlin 336 chambered in 30-30.

Using a solid front rest and rear bag, this rifle printed three consecutive five shot groups under 1" @ 100 yds. That group size was made more impressive by the sporadic crosswinds which had everyone else with groups resembling rectangles, 1.5 to 3" wide. Well, everyone had to examine this relic and it was unanimous amongst us that the rifle was obviously defective. There could be no other explanation. We encourage the rifle's owner, Buck, to send it back to Marlin and not bring it out again to the range until he could shoot normal Marlin groups of 2" or larger. Rather than risk ostracism, he agreed.

Further rumors are circulating about a merger between Winchester and Marlin before 2008. Whether the new lever rifles will be Winlins or Marsters is being actively and heated debated. Following trends in the industry, the new design for lever action will include a polymer frame with a carbon fiber lever and night sights. The new optional double helix magazine will be capable of 18 rounds and optional Picatinny rails will accomodate lazer, SureFire or MP3s.

In the "Marlin vs Winchester" discussions, I find it interesting that two other superb levers are often omitted, the Savage 99 and the Browning BLR. My BLR in 358Win has been subMOA out of the box. It has a modern design, is easy to carry and is accurate enough to warrant a scope in the event one wishes to shoot prairie dogs or such.

Rifles, for me, are more than simply function. One of my favorite rifles is a Winchester M71 Deluxe, a preWar model, and it gets a regular workout at the range and when hunting in the timbered areas. There are those that would contend that the M71 represents the high point of lever guns and I would agree. Besides being a great hunting piece, the workmanship and the aesthetics are incomparable for a mass produced firearm.

I've shot a lot of deer with my BLR 81 .358, Handloader, but I will still take the Marlin 45/70 Guide Gun any day.
I reload 200gr Core-Locts that duplicate my .348 loads that I use for hunting.

I still remember the day I was 17 or so, sighting in my Marlin 336 30-30 that my dad bought new in 1968. He was going to buy a Win 94 but they started making them cheap 4 years earlier. Anyway I was sighting in the 336 on the farm I worked on and the feed delivery man came over and started a conversation bragging about his deer rifle, a .270 bolt action and how it was "much more accurate than 30-30s". He was speechless though when he saw the last group I shot, 3 shots in what looked like just a slightly enlarged bullet hole. Wasnt even a cloverleaf, you could just see where the hole was enlarged slightly on 2 sides. Range was 80 yards. I have a Savage 99 in .308, its a decent rifle but wont shoot like the 336.
