I just got a new hunting buddy, born on wednesday. My first grandson. I can't wait till he is old enough. My own grandfather was too old to hunt with. What special memories do you guys have hunting with ganddad or grandson?

Congrats on the new hunting buddy. Don't know if it counts but one of my greatest memories of my grandpa was when I was about 4 and he had me stalk the chicken that was going to be dinner and then kill with him.

What a nice thought to make wonderful memories between granddad and grandson. Never really had the chance. One of my grandfathers was deceased before I was born. I remember as a small fellow watching my father, uncle and other granddad hunting rabbits and pheasants in a field near our house. I wanted to be with them, but was too young. A few years later my grandfather died. Make those memories when you can. All the best...

Congratulations Pitt55.....and congats to the new parents as well.

I never knew my Grandfathers, they were both long gone before I came onto the scene. My Father was never into hunting, but he would take us camping and fishing regularly.....these were some of the most enjoyable days and memories of my my life.

I have 4 daughters and now 6 grandkids (5 boys and 1 girl) and they all show an interest in hunting......only problem is they are all a long way from where I live.

Make the most of these days mate, they will be some of the most enjoyable of your life.

Cheers, Vince

Congratulations Pitt55 on the Grandson .......... Smile
My one Grandpa was long gone before I came to be and the other one I saw briefly but he passed away when I was just three and a half, but I do remember seeing him and visiting him. I hunted small game with my Dad, but he had given up big game hunting by the time I was old enough and he's been gone for almost 10 years now. I now have a couple of Grandsons that I'm looking forward to hunting with. Hopefully I'll get the chance. One is four and the other is one. I do most of my hunting with my youngest son, the father to both of my Grandsons. Smile

The grandson I went camping with this past weekend turns 12 this fall and I'm hoping to take him hunting this year. He doesn't live with his dad, my son. I don't know if his mother will approve but...oh well.... My other grandson is 7 and my son has already taken him a couple of times. My Dad didn't hunt, my oldest brother started taking me when I was 6 and if you want to talk great memories, well....I plan on some day when I've shuffled off this mortal coil to have my ashes scattered at our first hunting campsite.

I never knew either of my grandfathers, one was a rustler and the other was a farmer/schoolteacher so hopefully they both got lynched (kidding about the lynching, not kidding about the occupations Very Happy )

Congratulations! I'm sure very shortly he will have camo pajamas, right?

My grandson loves camping and shooting the Red Ryder BB gun I got him last year. I also took him on a small game hunt and he saw me and others shoot squirrels and rabbits. He handled that real well, but he thought the gutting/skinning was kind of "yucky". Still he handled that pretty well, too and is already talking a bout going again.

This year he turns 10 and I'm going to let him shoot my .22 LR; and am looking for a single shot .22 for someone his size.

Congrats to the new grandpaw.

My mother was a single parent. My grandfather taught me to shoot when I was 5, he taught me to hunt and to fish. We spent many days on the lake hunting ducks and fishing for brim, bass and blue gill.

Last week I called the son-inlaw and told him it was time to take the grandson out deep sea fishing, he is now six. He loves to stand on my dock and watch for bites on his fishing pole. So trolling out in the Gulf should be pretty good for him. At least he can watch and learn.

I have a 510 Remington restored for him in the safe and bought a 94C Marlin 357 Mag in Tulsa for him to use as his first deer rifle. It all comes around if you live long enough. But you do not have to long or time to waste.

Congratulations!!!
Now you have to live healthy to see you grandchild hunt.
My Mom's Dad was gone before I was born, and my Dad's Dad died when I was 7, so I can't tell any hunting stories.
I have 10yr old Twins, a boy and a girl, and a 16 year old son.
If I should have any grandchildren, they will be orphans shortly, if you know what I mean. Very Happy Very Happy
Again, enjoy your new grandchild.

Eric

I fished alot with my dad's dad. I spent many the hour in the boat with him catching bluegills. I only got to hunt with him once as he was getting pretty old by the time I turned of age. I started taking my boys when they were around 5. The only thing that could be better than that is going with my new buddy. And yes I am already looking for a set of camo. I have a 243 for a startr rifle and a junior 20ga. for a shotgun.

Congrats, My Grampa took me fishing at a young age, but his health got bad before he could take me hunting. He gave me his new hunting rifle he bought to go out West Mule Deer hunting, he didn't made it, He told me not to wait till I was too old to go, like he did, I took his advice and have been on a few good hunts. I always think of him when I'm hunting. Now if my kids would hurry up and give me some grandkis... Very Happy
