sask boy,
here are two loads that I have used in various guns with good results...
CASE: Remington Nickel Plated 270 Winchester
PRIMER: CCI-200
POWDER: IMR-4320 / 51.0 gr.
BULLET: Hornady 110 gr. V-MAX
VELOCITY: 3,362 fps.
ACCURACY: shooting from bench, these loads average around 3/4" at 100 yards...
..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................
CASE: W-W 270 Winchester
PRIMER: CCI-200
POWDER: Varget / 55.0 gr.
BULLET: SPEER 100 gr. H.P.
VELOCITY: 3,549 fps.
ACCURACY: This load averages right at 1" at 200 yards when fired from a bench...
Both of these loads have proven both safe and accurate in the guns they were fired in. These loads should be worked up to gradually to prove them safe in YOUR rifle....

Iwould take my current rifle. A Parker-Hale in 30-06. Beautiful and accurate. Not to mention I can load the 06 for anything from varmints to moose.

I just bought a Ruger No. 1, Standard with a 26" Bbl. in 30.06, used in new condition. Anyone have any experience or advice on it? I am expecting some very good shot groups and accuracy but I have seen some other Rugers that I didn't like.

If I was limited to one center fire... Winchester 70 Featherweight in .280 Rem. Bullet weights from about 100 grain to 195 grain will do about everything. A friend nicknamed mine "Ol' Splintermaker" after I shot the tree in my photo.

Hey Saskboy, I've benn doing a little research on the .270, mainly because I want one too, I I've come up with this load.
Hornady 150gr SST with a BC of .525 with a max load of 57gr of IMR 7828 giving you a muzzle velocity of about 2900fps and still carries about 1434 ft lbs. of energy at 500 yards.

Hey Tikkat3, go ahead and give her that one and buy yourself a new Marlin XLR 444.

Yup, sorry about the delayed reply, it was a mod. 788, .270. I wish I would've bought it now. Oh well, that's my luck.
