I know that I'm sounding like a real greenhorn, but it sure would be cool to try some jerky.

I would also give my right arm to duck hunt in New Zealand. I hear that a guy can fill the bag with mallards. There is no limit on them.
As a matter of fact, once that I got down to your neck of the woods, I don't think that I would be coming back to the States anytime soon.

New Zealand gun laws still allow them to own Pistols, Military firearms, rifles with larger capacities and the like, just need separate "endorsements" on their licenses. Smile

Spent last weekend in the bush "blowin' up" bunnies. Had a ball. My 12g was workking magnificently. 32 grams of #4 shot is great bunnie "medicine".

One thing I did encounter was a large infestation of Hydatids amongst the rabbit population. I threw away probably 85% of the rabbits I shot because they were infected. Its not very nice. The following link will give you more information. Worst thing is, it can be transmitted to humans.

Hydatids

Gidday Joe. Mate, I had a real ball. Nothing more enjoyable than wandering through a paddock that has blackberry clumps everywhere, rabbits darting out from under your feet hoping they are able to get away, then "mounting" the shotgun, swing onto the ball of fur bolting away then cutting loose with a load of shot. Would be great with an auto, but they aren't allowed out here without approval...which is near impossible to get.

I have access to about 3000 acres, all of which has game....strangely though, given the area, no deer.....although there are fallow not too far away. The property has plenty of rabbits, feral dogs, dingos, foxes, kangaroos and wallabies, so its a great place to hunt. It also has a couple of good sized billabongs that no doubt also have fish in them....I'm working on that. Very Happy

Hydatids is a very nasty parasite. I have seen some really terrible looking cysts in the rabbits...some as big as the palm of your hand. The worst part is the ease at which it can spread, and the list of possible hosts. Very nasty.

Cheers, Vince
