Dallen C...How about starting a Deer hunting Team Pool ? Teams consist of 10 members, randomly picked by you. Each player can input only one deer from any state or Canadian providence. If the hunter hunts more then one State, he still can only input one deer. He can, however enter his best deer. If your state allows more then one deer, then you enter your best deer if you shoot more then one. You can use a bow/gun or Blackpowder.l There can be 3 winning teams. One winner
for the most dressed weight of all deer shot by the team. Another winner for most score able points a team has. A Point is 1inch horn. And last but not a team with the largest combined B.C. score. If anyone has a better suggestion, I am up for it. Lets have some fun and get a sign up going.

I agree it sounds like fun but when I have to consider my skinny little Georgia deer compared to the heavyweights of the northern states and Canada I would be at the bottom of the pile. I wouldn't fair to high on points either. How would you suggest fixing that when choosing teams and who does the BC scoring?

Southpaw, welcome to Hunting Nut
I guess I'm out of the game...
I really don't do much deer hunting anymore but I did get one with a pickup truck last year.
Any points?
Chet

Hi everyone, new to this forum but it seems to give alot of good reading. This sounds like a fun competiton. I guess since we only get one mule deer per year I better make it a good one.

I guess count me in. I will probably hunt with a rifle, as opposed to a revolver.
The plan would be take a digital picture of the deer and submit the measurements? Maybe the measurment standards should be defined. Could be fun, if nothing else, we should post a bunch of deer.

I am new to the forum and live in Florida, where the deer are smaller than Georgia deer. I would love to join but our smaller deer and unfertile sandy earth to grow crops in, makes even a 10 point a great deer. But being in Florida, our hunting season liberal and has already started September 10th and will go thru the February 15th with a daily limit of two bucks a day.

Hi new guy here, Sounds good. If you spread team members out across then each team has entries from both smaller and lager deer. I know B.C. scoring, but deductions get complex. I think you should just ues gross scores, give the derr credit for every inch he grew. Sheer number of deer in not a good yard stick. Here in Sak. We can take 3 White tail in the Forest Zone, you could also take a 4 by bow in the P.A. Zone. And if mulies are in, there is a CWD control hunt, were you can buy as many 2 doe tags as you can afford for $20 each. I don't supose any one would would want to be on my team team huh? |
Not really, if I bothered going to west Tn the limit this year is 297 (max of 3 bucks) without getting drawn for any of the quota/WMA hunts.
It's infrickinsane. Even in the "small" deer herd in east Tn we can get 5 or 6 (again max 3 bucks) without quota/WMA draws.
Of course it takes 2 or 3 to fill a freezer.

I know what you mean because where i hunt now, the bucks are smaller than the size of my brothers mastiff, with most racks being thin, 6pts and under (so i usually end up shooting 2-3 doe's anyway). Even with the corn, peas, and clover, only a few stray big bucks come in, but as soon as season starts, they are gone!
Plus, while the racks are nice....i have never been a trophy hunter.
