Here's a chuckle. I actually bought one of those butchering dvd's I mentioned in the other thread. I wanted to see if I'd pick up any extra tips or whatever. Watched it and thought, yeah...that's what I was doing anyway. Well, there's $20 I'll never see again. LOL

The subject is deer to my heart. I hunt like most of you. I have permission on a couple small farms but hunt about 80% on public land. I have been hunting for a long time and put a ton of work into scouting and researching. It has rewarded me well with my share of "trophy" bucks. A friend of mine started a TV show called Whitetail Addictions. The therorie is to feature the "regular" hunter who has above average results. At 1st the idea was great to me, and don't take this wrong cause I still think its the best show on TV. He featured me and my kid a few times now shooting some great bucks that we took knocking on doors asking for permission, and off of public land. But we had to compete with the Guys who owned huge farms and leased large parcels for alot of money. I still like being part of that show and still summit footage. I was on Sportsmans channel shooting a 14 pointer last week on a freinds 80 acre hunting property that several people hunt...
Anywho... One other thing that really bugged me was all the sponsor crap. I don't think most people understand how much sponsors control what is said and done on hunting shows. Whitetail Addictions, just like all the rest of the shows out there recieve HUGE amounts of money for useing certain products and making claims about them during the shows. W/A is one of the better ones, but most shows have turned into big infomercials about products and the hunter is required to sift thru the crap and decide whats real and whats advertisment... I HATE IT!
Well, I decided to make a difference... I decided to make a hunting DVD about how regular guys like me get the job done in adverse situations. I did it right too! No sponsors, so no biased product plugs. No Outfitters, or cushy high dollar lease's you and I can't afford. I just hate the "Rich Guy showing off" type DVD's that teach nothing and just show one "purchased" hunt after another... 80% of my DVD was filmed on Wisc. public land... In my DVD you get to see start to finish, exactly how we scout, find, and hunt mature bucks in heavy hunted situations.
It was not an easy venture for a working stiff like me... Me and my two hunting buddys had to put up all the money to fund this DVD because of the "NO SPONSOR" clause. Now we got to put up all the money to go to deer shows and such to promote it... Sure hope it sells!

Here is a link to watch a teaser promo clip for the DVD:
www.bloodbro.com/hunti...hbucks.php

Here is what the DVD package looks like:
www.bloodbro.com/store...vd2_lg.jpg

Really... What do you Guys think about this concept??? Somewhere down the road, I would like to do TV my way too... But that might be tough to accomplish...

Don't get me wrong but watchin a video to learn to hunt is like watchin a porno flick to learn how to be married.

I'm speaking with Keetowah on the phone as I type this. A beginning hunter for those who don't know her and she said, "Veedeos we donn need no stinkin veedeos!"

She was also kind enough to mention that the advice she has received from me and our buddies here is the best teaching she's had so far, better than the hunting skills of those two goombahs she went out with. And she said to say hi to the fellas (and Tink cuz she aint no stinkin' fella) , you know who you are! And she says Merry Christmas to all!

Don't take me wrong gang.
I'm just not a big buck kind of a guy.
I like nice tender young deer in the freezer.
However, after most of my life pretty much living in the woods, a guy would be hard put to give me a new "system"
I too have a lot to learn on many things, but in this case I just don't think so.
Systems are great for school and beginners.
The "system" in the woods is the story that the woods tells you, and being able to read what Mother Nature has to say isn't learned when you are in your twenties of thirties. It takes a long time.
Could I "compete" with a guy in harvesting big bucks. Put the money down.
My proplem is that I like eating tender meat. If a big one comes along once in a while, you bet. I'll shoot it and be happy. I will also be processing a lot of sausage and burger.

Good luck on your video guys. My Son Ben would like to do the same as you, only with duck and goose calling.
I also gave him and his partner grief in the duck blind this year about using their competition calls.
I told them to put thier calls down and let a guy who sounds like a duck do the job. Very Happy
And boy did we shoot ducks!!! Very Happy

OK, I'll put the DVD idea in the same category as gun magazines and deer hunting TV shows... ANY source of information CAN be useful! Anyone can teach you something new or confirm an idea that you had before. NO single source of info is the "be all, end all". You have to sort through the stuff and see what you can use. Someone at work has a little blurb at the end of their emails that basically says that the key to knowledge is understanding how much you don't know.

The one guy who does videos that all can learn from is Phil Robertson's Duck Man Videos.
He hunts like a guy should hunt.
While teaching Ben and my twins how to duck call and when to duck call, I used Robertson's Duck Man Videos to show them real hunting by a real hunter.
Robertson's isn't above "potting" a swimming duck once in a while either. Very Happy

City boys wouldn't like his videos I don't think, but the redneck hunters sure do.

Ya know, I should make a duck hunting and deer hunting video.
I can see the titles now--"How to lead a swimming duck"
"Systems in shooting trophy deer." " I swear guys it was a massive four pointer before a point got knocked off by a spiker"
"Gut shoot a deer to learn how to be an expert tracker"

Just think of all of the sponsors that I would get. Very Happy Very Happy wtf wtf

No one knows everything, and if you ever quit l;earning things in the outdoors, its time to hang up your hat. I don't ever plan to stop learning.

Reading your comments, I doubt my DVD would be apealing to any of you. It concentrates on big marsh'es, sounds like most of you Guys are hunting big woods deer, and are not that much into "big bucks".
The point of the post was really a chance for me to respond to the origanal topic, I believe this post started as a rant about how all people filming for shows and video's are doing it wrong, hunting game farms, pushing products, hunting with outfitters, and not hunting public land...
My style of hunting might be different than yours, but my point is "I am doing it different, and trying to make a difference" in just how crappy those shows are...

I don't get too complicated or self important while hunting Vint. I pretty much hunt they way most woodsmen do.
Keep it simple, and follow what the woods is telling you.
I sure don't knock it, but the last thing that I worry about is trying to pick out a individual deer by the way it walks by looking at it's tracks.
When I hear that kind of story, I put on my hip boots or waders so not to let the B.S. stink me up too much.
The last thing that I worry about is impressing other hunters.
If that day ever comes for me, I'll hang up my guns.

I don't knock the idea of a trophy, but I am a meat hunter and do a lot of solo hunting. I hunt my own timber and some of the neighbors and it is mixed hardwoods and red cedar. I have some nice racks, up to 160 points, but they are incidental. My son took an 11 point buck that field dressed at 192 and I took a doe this fall. I still have tags to fill for anterless only! I would guess we meat hunters don't make for exciting videos!!! I think we are on the same page here!!!:D

Vint,

Well I may have been born and partly raised in the city but I still prefer a cold beer over wine with my dinner. Laughing

What I was getting at is that I know guys who hit the beer as soon as the deer is dressed and back to the vehicle!!!!!! It is one of those things that made me go solo in the woods!!! Wine is sort of the wifes choice, I like a good beer on occasion!!

Well Vint,

Don't know too many people who open the beer that soon, actually don't know any, we normally wait till we are home, after we butcher it and cook part of the meat to have as a snack with a beer. Laughing
