In the city of Seattle a dangerous knife is defined as "any knife, sword or bladed weapon with a fixed blade"....

That table knife is a dangerous knife............

oh, and it contiues, "... or folding knife with a blade that exceeds 3 inches in length or an open length of 6 inches or more.."
It also includes "any knife that can be opened with one hand or by centrifugal force or with the aid of a spring."

All I can say it is a good thing that the state's gun laws supercede any local, city or county laws. You can walk around with a gun on your hip but you can't carry a table or butter knife. Hmmmmm

In the July 2008 (yep, that's what it says on the cover!) issue of Buckmasters magazine there are some reviews of "horizontal bows" as well as a number of ads for them. Some pretty fancy looking stuff! I was intrigued with the Horton reCon which operates sorta backwards from all the others. The limbs are mounted to the rear and flex toward the front when cocked.

$1900.00+ Thats crazy. $2000.00 for a cross bow? I dont think so.

I specified a man-sized target, as opposed to a bear-sized target so no one would rant about unethical hunting. Oh, well......

As I stated, I was shooting at targets, not live game. I was a Marine Sniper, and one thing I learned was that pushing the limits at the range will keep you alive in combat. You will understand your weapon and know it's limits.

It's also good for your confidence. If you can hit a paper plate at 100 yards, you are less likely to choke up on a deer at 30 yards. I am confident that this crossbow will not present any surprises at 40 yards, since it is capable of great accuracy at 100 yards.

Another reason for long distance shooting is that it makes it easier to see what your arrows/bolts are doing after they leave the bow. Any irregularities in flight will be magnified at that distance, where they may not be obvious at 40 yards. Many times, I will set paper targets in a direct line at 10, 25, 50, 75 and 100 yards, then shoot through them all to see what the arrow is doing. By examining the holes (or rips) in the paper, you can re-create the arrows flight and spot problems. You'd be surprised at the amount of fish-tailing and porpoising that goes on sometimes.

And, I get a kick out of seeing my arrow smack the target at extreme range, sort of like when you hit a baseball with the 'sweet' spot on a Louisville Slugger (the original ash ones)....when you know as soon as it connects that it's a homer.

I shoot animals at the closest distance I can get, mainly because I am getting old, and I don't want to have to carry them any further than I have to. If I could make them get into the truck on their own, I would just take them home and shoot them there. I hunt for food, not sport.

Huh? Are you sure your not shooting this thing backwards? Laughing

A crossbow is on my short list of "toys I'd like to have". We cant hunt with them here unless you are disabled and cant pull a normal bow. Ironically Wyoming which is fairly restrictive on weapons allows crossbows. They look like fun.

NC law also only allows disabled hunters with a permit from the Wildlife Resources Commision to hunt with crossbows. And they must have a minumum draw weight of 150 lbs, compared to 40 for longbows and recurves and 35 for compounds.

As michigan has decided to let us use them for deer on Gun season, I may update my old one and get myself a newer one for hunting.

As Dallan said...a very unique design. I take it that the pic shows it already cocked and ready to fire? I did a little head scratchin' until I come to that conclusion. Laughing

Looks a real neat unit. Wish we were allowed to have them over here.

Mate...a BLUNT stick can be classified as a weapon if you thump someone with it.

The bleedin' hearts have all but got us by the "short and curlies" these days.

But to get back on topic. You used to be able to buy a crossbow over here until our of Prime Minister managed to crucify the firearms owners with his new laws. Even an air rifle became a firearm and a blowgun is illegal in certain areas.
