I make my own fire starter. I fill a quart jar with sifted ashes and add diesel until it is saturated. One tablespoon of this mixture will burn long enough to get just about anything burning. The only thing I have to do is store it out of the house, because of the diesel smell. Once you burn it, the diesel smell goes away shortly.

My primary heat is oil I had to do something. I have a full tank of oil now so between the pellet stove and the full tank of oil I'm set for this winter. I will get a used propane furnace sometime and set it in the shed until I run out of oil and then I will install the gas furnace. I want to keep a furnace that my daughter can come home from school and if its cold just hit the thermostat and get warm and then I'll fire up the pellet stove when I get home.

Prices on pellets are rising so now is the time to get them. I just picked up a 1/2 ton of Hamer Pellets for $5.29 a 40# bag. There a little cheaper by the ton $248.00 a ton but thats $ 10.00 more a ton than last month . I'm kinda short of room to store them right now or I would have gotton a ton. If ya need them get um now if ya can

We have decided to mix our pellets with corn. As our stove instrutions said we can. right know corn is $6.00 per 50 pounds, I purchased 1 ton of it too, its average moisture content is less than 11% and will burn very well.

Will do Joe! you have to use wood pellets and starter gel to get her wound up, But once she takes off you can start the auger.

I emailed Breckwell about burning corn in mine and parts availability ( ya never no ) because they don't make the model I have anymore and they told me I can burn corn as long I mix it and use only 1/3 corn they said parts are still available some may have to be upgraded though.
