I have stayed 34 years at my current job and thank God it's as secure as any job could be. Much of the funding has been cut, but so far it has just cut our overtime down to nothing. You don't realize how lucky you are to have a job until you hear of the many others that don't. I don't feel too lucky when the alarm goes off at 4AM, but I am blessed to have what I have. It's hard enough trying to make ends meet with a job, I can't even imagine how hard things would be if I didn't. My Son was living in Oklahoma and lost his job. He recently moved back in here and is having a tough time trying to get any work at all. He has picked up a few bucks here and there just taking on odd jobs. No way he could feed or house himself. Even with a war on he's now considering the military.
It all just makes me wonder just why our politicians continue to allow the flow of illegal aliens into this country, who are surely taking jobs that our own citizens could otherwise use to help feed their families.
I hope for the best for all you guys, but like many others I fear the worst is yet to come. I pray I'm wrong.
Don

Thats just why I work for myself..
If there is cut down, I did it to myself, not some corporate a$$ decide that my section is just unprofitable to keep up
The only gripe I have is that as an employer, I am always portrayed as a bad guy by the worker, even though I try my best to create a secure job for them.
Being an employer does not mean that we are basking in money.. when times are though we are the first one to usually cut down our income.
Heck we are the ones that pit our belongings to create jobs... we are "locked in" to our investment.
It is tough, I have not have more than 4 consecutive days holiday for 15 years -
but I am secure in knowing that no one can fire me, nor order me around..
If I don't like the customer, I could turn the job down and find another one.
I sometime envy my friends and my emplyees who could get 2 weeks to a month holidays - but they always sweats for the axe to fall..
To each their own..
There is an old Chinese sayings that I believe in..
"it is better to be the head of a cat, than the tail of a tiger."
I hope you got a new job quickly Slots...
be positive and be prepared to change..
It is though times for all, but willingness to change will see you through.

I think it's mainly the corporate management types that give employers a bad name. Especially when after running a company into the ground, they vote themselves millions of dollars in bonuses while holding their hand out to the tax payers for bailout money.

OK, now they are saying no help will be hired (we are a number of techs short) which I can understand. And the salary people may take a 20% pay cut. Of course the techs will be taking a 25% reduction in hours...
Now all this is subject to change at the drop of a hat. I know that the economy is cyclic and that things will turn around eventually. I still get pissed off at the knotheads who created this mess. This is the third job I've had where the management crippled the company, and I lost the first two jobs because of it.

Thanks for the prayers folks.
As to the job they cut I was a Infernal Auditor for a casino for a year and before that I worked in the casino on the floor for 12 years and did 20 years as a logger with my own company (I love spotted owls) with 15 years as a volunter paramedic for fun.
I hope this does turn around or Bushy might have to quit breathing, I've chased myself out of the house once or twice.

Well it is comforting to know that here in Saskatchewan we actually saw a 3.3 per cent increase in jobs in the month of January.
