Can anyone give me some ballistics for sidelock black powder rifles? I have found articles for in lines, but not for sidelocks.
Thanks much,
vint2

Ignition type has little effect on ballistics,an inline and a sidelock loaded with same load should have same ballistics.Perhaps you have seen data for pellet loads not compatible with all sidelocks. If loads are able to be used in a sidelock the information should be correct for all practical purposes given similar barrel length. What caliber and projectile are you looking for data for?

Thank you for your feed back! 50 caliber 285 grain Barnes with 100 grains of 777, 28" barrel.

285 grain Barnes Spitfire? I am not sure of the BC of this bullet but would guess about 2.25. I would guess you are getting about 2000 fps with this load. Have access to a chronograph?Thats the only way to be sure.Sorry I dont have more concrete figures. You can simply plug bullet weight, ballistic coefficient, and velocity into the point blank online feature on this website and find out trajectory. hope this helps.

Thanks much for the feedback! I have found out that I cannot use Barnes as they keyhole in my rifle so need to find another bullet in less than a week!
Thanks again,
vint2

I would guess the velocity closer to 1700fps personally. No way to really be sure unless you shoot it over a cronograph though. 777 is supposed to be hotter than plain pyro but I never cronographed it... accuracy was so dismal I quit using it.

I'd have to dig out my notes on standard pyro velocites but really when you are talking ML's once you get past 150 yards they are falling so fast it largely becomes a moot point. I am sighted in at 120 yards with my Rem700ML and its good out to my self imposed limit of 150.

We used to have a Muzzleloader database online here but its slipped through the cracks since we upgraded the software. Perhaps I should get it working again.

I have 1819 on the chronograph, but need to do more work with different bullets as my Barnes are keyholing. No complaint about 777 just yet, but will compare to Clean Shot and get back to you! Will also do more with TC Power Belts and some lead.
Many thanks,
vint2
