Well, definatly keep your mind open about wich one to choose, but dont worry about being "cut-out" for the infantry, if you have enough mental fortitude, the nice guys in the big brown hats at benning will do the rest. reserves is a good option, definatly want to look at doing some college while you are in.

A bit of trivia...you guys would have maybe heard of the Wiggles...a Children's Show group....well....the Blue Wiggle (Anthony) used to be one of my soldiers, he was also my M113A1 driver for a while. Very nice guy.

I knew there was something funny bout that show.... Must be the Aussies newest plot to take over the world right Vince? get 'em while theyre young? Wink

First off, decide Enlisted or officer. Officer, US, requires college whether ROTC or OCS (OTS) or not. ROTC is the far easier entry level into the military; you join in college and graduate from college as a 2nd LT. Apply for OCS while in military, get rejected, still in military and miserable.

You want a technical job? Then you want a technical branch, US Navy or USAF. Regular USAF duty and units are pretty much like a Boy Scout Troup with guns and bombs. Navy, the officers are still kings, with fairly strict discipline, compared to Coast Guard or USAF. Easy is better at 365/24/7.

The US Army has all the money and all the men. The elite units are very good; the regular Army is a step down in discipline and spirit.

The poor cousins are the Marines; comparatively they live off of everyone else’s cast offs and make do. A lot of Marines serve entire hitches as guards, on ships and on government facilities. It can be a real trial for those that reject absolute discipline.

My father was a US Navy Chief as was his twin brother; their third brother was a US Marine Sgt. My stepfather retired from the USAF Intel. My daughter was a USAF Sgt in Desert Storm. My son is a CRO (Combat Recovery Officer) USAF Capt. He was 8 years an enlisted USAF PJ (Pararescue). Forty years ago I was a Recondo (LRP) Sgt in the 101st Airborne Division. I serve on the board of directors of two scholarship corporations today. We are red white and blue and I have a slightly different take on the question and the answer.

Are you undecided? Get an education and go ROTC if you want the military. Take two asprins and send me a thank you note in 10 years.
Best,
Ed
