Shot a 460 S&W this weekend. I think it was the 4" or 5" barrel, forgot to ask. It was pretty short.

Was very pleasantly surprised at the lack of recoil. The porting on it and such really must work as the recoil was super mild.

The report was off the charts though. Man, it was LOUD and, the pressure wave was like a BMG. It kicked up a ton of dust and when viewed from the side you could see the blast wave. It was intense and you could really feel it in your gums and sinus.

I did not like the trigger in DA though. It was super heavy and made it impossible to get off shots cleanly. My mate got it for a bear gun but he needs to get the trigger done. It's ridiculously heavy and pale's in comparison with my Alaskan.

Pretty interesting piece though and again, the lack of recoil was really incredible.

Anyone else shot one of these?

Can't say I've had the pleasure. It's hard to believe from your description of the blast that the recoil could be anything but painful. Was the revolver's barrel ported?

My brother has the 460 XVR with 8" barrel, the recoil is less then imagined but I could still feel it in the wrists. There is a hell of a shock wave that comes off the beast. The XVR is the reason I chose to go with the BFR 45-70 it doesn't snap the wrist as quick it pushes more then snap. Both of them have a very impressive fire ball. Once you play with one of the big boys you'll want one.

I have the 460V with the ported 5 inch barrel. I have absolutely no complaints about the trigger on mine; it's smooth and breaks like glass; not too heavy either and it has not had a trigger job.

As far as recoil goes, I would also call it pretty mild. The reason; it's a fairly heavy revolver, has a ported barrel and the S&W grips have a soft spot where the web of the hand rests that takes the pain out of it. Before I changed grips, my Ruger Redhawk used to make me bleed; there has been no such problem with my 460V.

The 460 I shot had a horrible DA trigger. Didn't shoot it SA, didn't see the point...it's a DA. Maybe the gun was new and it hadn't married yet. I hope it gets a whole lot better with use. Even if it were married with snap-caps and dry-firing and got 200% better, it'd still be pretty heavy. Just my opinion.

It has a the same grip as my Alaskan with the Sorbothane insert. Dang good grip.

I'm still impressed with the lack of recoil. It was interesting to note the blast wave yet it recoiled very little. They obviously did their homework on several design fronts.

Very nice piece and Wiersy's right.... now I want one.

Once you feel that much power anything else is just kinda blah.

I've actually been thinking of Getting a BFR and having the barrel shortened to 4 1/2 or 5 inches.

It'll look like a Judge with the cylinder longer than the barrel.

That's just cruel! A short barrel BFR would be sexy. Not mention intimidating.

Copy that!

Might make it mad giving it a nose job. And we don't want that.
