Well I built mine a little over 20 years ago when did they come out with theirs? Very Happy I didn't copy any thing really, didn't know someone built something like it. That was my own idea.

This is what I use when I'm cleaning my guns. A dowel pin at each end holds it together. If you pull them out it come apart easy for more compact storage.

I hope I didn't copy some ones patent ................... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Caldwell Zeromax

For 30 bucks why build one?

Nope I don't recall seeing that before I built mine. There certainly are some similarity's.

I took two years of wood shop and still can't hammer a nail or whittle a toothpick.

B? I saw a scratch in the finish... Very Happy

Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Sorry about the scratch, I'll sand it out ...................... Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I never took any woodworking course, everything I have learned about wood working I've pretty much done on my own over the years. I have always enjoyed working with wood and over the years have built a lot of items. I started with small items and worked up. In recent years I've built a computer desk for my daughter and several other items around the house. I enjoy it and it keeps me busy during the winters that I'm laid off from work. Now my garage is so full, of not only mechanical tools but also wood working tools, that I have to leave my truck sit outside all year.

Your rests...both of 'em...look pretty good to me mate. You musta already sanded out that scratch cause I can't see it. Laughing

I like your shooting rest...so much so that I might just have a look at making one similar...it looks much more stable than mine.

Cheers, Vince

Thanks Vince, yes as a matter of fact I did sand it right after Bushy told me about it, odd how it came out of the picture as well ................. Shocked Very Happy Very Happy

Yes that shooting rest is nice and solid. I use it as a sighting in aid but mostly when I am working up a new load so as to get as much human error out of the equation as possible.

Suz you're right, no wooden screws, but there are some metal ones ....... Very Happy

There's yer problem...

Quit tryin' to "hammer" nails...

And why bother to whittle a toothpick when you can get a box of 250 for 29 cents?

Took my bench rest out for a shoot today. This is the first time I've used it with the screw attached. It doesn't work so well after-all. The clamp can't hold the rifle level, other than that it's ok, but I'm more comfortable with the rifle on my shoulder anyway. I was trying out the OCW load development from Dan Newberry. I love it, and I love my new .270. I'm going to put some photos in the reloading forum, I have some questions for you kind hairy men.

Well thanks Vince! Would love to know your ideas, I lovem too and just don't have enough of them. I've looked over some old antique stuff to look for screws but mostly the old woodworking clamps (cramps) are all I see with the screws.
Suz

Spinning wheels have great threaded wood parts. I have two; the movers broke the part with the hole on one. May try to glue it back together; if it doesn't work, will use your helpful info to make a new one (wheels arn't cheap).

Nice work on the rest! Something like that would help with my .50 Sharps 3 1/4 - it jumps off the shooting-sticks; strapping the barrel down would help practice. Thanks.

Andy.
