I accompanied my Brother-in-law and a friend on a Mouflon sheep hunt today. I took my Remington Mod. Seven in .260 for the hunt. I bought it used last year and had never hunted with it before. I was using 120gr. Barnes TSX bullets over 45.5gr. of H414 for about 2860FPS. We were driven in using a Mule and dropped off at different places. It wasn't long before I saw a herd of Elk and then deer(both whitetail and fallow), but no sheep. I walked slowly through the woods for about 2 hours before spotting a herd of sheep. The woods are fairly thick with trees and undergrowth and I couldn't get a clear shot so I hunted in closer. Every time I got near they would slowly move off keeping me just out of range. I could catch a glimpse of them moving every now and then through the trees and it seemed they heard me now and then which kept them moving. I had to follow the herd for quite a while before a shot finally presented itself. Trees are plentiful so I used one to steady the rifle for the shot and aimed for the sheep in the lead. He looked to be the biggest. At the shot the herd scrambled and took off running. I lost track of the sheep I had shot at, not knowing whether I missed or what went wrong. I moved to where I thought I shot it and couldn't see anything so I just started walking around the area. Sure enough he wasn't laying too far away, but was just hard to see laying against the leaves. As it ends up he had only gone 4' from the place I shot him. The Model Seven in .260 performed great as did the TSX bullet.

Congrats on your successful hunting adventure! A great ram in a challenging setting. I don't have a .260 but am interested in getting a 6.5mm some day, soon I hope.

Waytago BB!! Nice beautiful animal! Didn't know they had any of those in the U.S.A. Is that hunt on a private reserve/ranch? or a wild hunt? I'd love to see some out in the woods, I bet they're a bit spooky too.

Suz, the Mouflon isn't native to the USA. It has been successfully introduced to many countries in Europe and I believe it's roots are from Corsica. We hunted these on private property. The guy that owns this place owns an entire valley here and another similar in western PA. He stocks both whitetail and fallow deer, elk and these sheep. On his other property he stocks elk and bison. The best part for me is that you can walk all day and never see a fence. Another really good part of it is that my Brother-in-law is in business with the owner so the hunts don't cost me a cent.
I'm not really a trophy hunter. My thrill comes more from the hunt and seeing my rifle, handloads and myself perform. I kept the meat and told my BIL he could have the trophy. He has walls filled with them, many of which I harvested.
