It feels like the prophecy of 2012 is on the makings..
I am not superstitious, but a bloke got to think different when one disaster after another is reported..

Then again, the news business are thriving on disasters..

So, Canadians Nuts, Mr D. are you ok?

About this 2012 thing... Just think about it. If the world ends then, who cares? We won't be around to worry about it anyway. If it doesn't end, who cares? Nothing will have happened!

The only thing that actually worries me about it is the nut cases who will do crazy things at that time. (No reference to HuntingNuts intended! Wink )

You are right Mike, who cares.. just as the Y2K and any other such scares..

I also think if TEOTWAWKI did happen,
I am sure the members in this here forum would definitely have a hell lot than even chance to survive it.
Anyone who could go out and gather their own food and ENJOY to live rough would have better than even chance.
Not that everyone of us would find that as a blessing tho.. Confused

To survive and be alive after any situation no matter the conditions is a blessing.

A friend of mine said that, should he ever be around a major incident, he wanted to be the one on TV saying "Heck yeah I saw the whole thing, from a distance ..."

With my luck I'll be right in the middle of it when, and if, it happens...

Haven't heard all that much in the news about Canada's earthquake. Must not been all that bad or was out in the middle of nowhere...

It was only 5.0? unless it was right near the surface it wouldn't even rattle the neighbors dishes....
We barely feel anything under a 6.0 here in the great PNW. all our quakes are more than 7 miles deep. In California the quakes are typically less than a mile deep.

This one was 10.2 miles deep Paul...so maybe it didn't create too much of a problem.

There was a decent shake in the Solomon Island yesterday...

Magnitude 6.7

Date-Time

* Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 05:30:19 UTC
* Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 04:30:19 PM at epicenter
* Time of Earthquake in other Time Zones

Location 10.636°S, 161.443°E
Depth 35 km (21.7 miles) set by location program
Region SOLOMON ISLANDS

Distances 55 km (35 miles) WSW of Kira Kira, San Cristobal, Solomon Isl.
210 km (130 miles) SE of HONIARA, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands
220 km (140 miles) SSE of Auki, Malaita, Solomon Islands
2070 km (1280 miles) NNE of BRISBANE, Queensland, Australia

Location Uncertainty horizontal +/- 4.8 km (3.0 miles); depth fixed by location program
Parameters NST=302, Nph=302, Dmin=211.2 km, Rmss=1.14 sec, Gp= 18°, M-type=teleseismic moment magnitude (Mw), Version=8

1280 miles from where I live, so we certainly didn't feel it and it was 21.7 miles deep, so maybe not as nasty as it could have been.

If you want to keep track of earthquakes around the globe...check out this link:

Its surprising how many quakes there are in any given day.

Cheers, Vince

Thanks vince,
I have already bookmarked that sight.
I tend to watch the west coast of the USA with a marked interest on the Washington coast and interior. We have been pretty quiet over the last year.
