Its example of the lack of common sense in our governmental system.

Politicians do pay into Social Security - they don't draw it because they get that fat pension for two terms in office. If you want to fix social security make the politicians retire on it just like the rest of us.
Payments would go up like crazy and the fund would be fat if that were to happen.

Trem, you're obviously in law enforcement as am I. I am taxed at about 33% on my total renumeration and have an extra 4% taken out as superannuation, the Department stumps up the same 4% amount again which is invested with the aim of making more money. I can grab the lot as a lump sum if I retire or leave the police. On top of that I will get Govt Super Annuation once I turn 65.(thats 5 fifths of F. all though)
I get a $130K death benefit payout to my family if killed in the line of duty, plus they get my super. When I die my wife gets my contribution only plus half of my govt super.
Ive just ticked over 20 years in the NZ Police so dead or alive i'm worth about $250K.
How does that match up with you.

I notice one thing rush left out is the SGLI (Servicmembers Group Life Insurance).... right now 27 dollars a month gets us up to I think 500,000 if we are killed while on active duty. Pretty much as long as there was no gross negligence on the part of the deceased, it doesn't even matter if it is in the line of duty. Plus another 11 dollars covers your entire family, 100,000 for spouse and 50,000 per child. Not a bad deal considering world politics and our line of work.

Ok back to the real world, I've been working in the private sector for Orthodontists (the last one retired with multimillions, the current one is younger than I by 10 years) I've been in my current job position for over 30 yrs. My IRA has accumulated about a years worth of pay, and at retirement age (I am now 55 in Aug.) my social security will pay out $998 per month. If I were to go on dissability my payments to me would be $1330. a month. I won't be able to pay my mortage or health insurance, or maybe I could give up eating....Anyways I have no idea what I can get from my IRA but it aint much and couple that with the soc.security and you get next to nothing. Yep gov. jobs are the answer to that one. That's just one reason that over 7million private sector jobs have been lost to the ever-growing government expansion. The last stimulus package by the way increased public sector jobs by at least 100,000 and private sector jobs got to suck dirt. When there are less and less tax payers, more and more public sector jobs...........never mind, makes me ill...

I really don't want to get started on this one ...... but wouldn't it be nice if our elected officials hard to serve in one of the branches of service prior to being eligible for election?

As far as the compensation of the 911 victims I think their death was tragic but what make them eligible for any compensation? Were they better then citizens that lose their lives in car accidents, work place accidents, law enforcement officials, or Soldiers, Marine's, Sailors, or Airmen?

Wiersey! Yeah what's with that anyway. (911 compensation) Just another way for the regime to throw away more money. They want to bankrupt us and any ole excuse will do. Why don't they want to make me a millionaire? I'll have to ask. Surely us Indians needs some-o-dat Obama money. Hell we were the original owners of this place, and now look at it. The argument is, we didn't own it. Ownership of Mother Earth was like ownership of the air. Nope not possible to own it. But our homes were taken and our lives were taken and I could go on and on. I won't. The real point is the twin towers were a target of terrorists. In the history of the USA, has it ever been a custom or law or regulation that civilian persons be compensated for war time losses of lives? Well I think there is a history of it. Let me tell you it's just something they have cooking right now in Iraq, and other places in the Middle East and they're campaigning to up the ante. Here's an article from Campaign for Compensation

Najla's husband was driving in his car in late June 2003 on Haifa Street in Baghdad. As he passed through the Hamm ad Shihab traffic circle an RPG was shot from a green BMW at US soldiers who were manning a static position. None of the soldiers were injured and they quickly began to return fire as the green BMW sped away. Two bullets pierced Najla's husband’s body. He was taken to the Al-Karama hospital where he died from his wounds several days later.

Najla’s husband was one of many innocent civilians tragically caught in the crossfire of war. Under current US compensation rules, she and her family were only eligible to receive $2,500 for their tragic loss. Though she received the ‘maximum’ payment, there are countless others who get nothing.

If you are like us, you believe that civilians harmed and killed are the most tragic consequences of any conflict. Each life, each injury, each family tragically ripped apart should be recognized with dignity and equitable compensation. Legislation creating a fair and just claims system for the families of those innocently wounded and killed by US action will soon be introduced in Congress and we need your help to ensure it passes into law.

They need MY help?
I can't laugh loud enough!
How about all the Japanese civilians, do they get some too? There were a few thousand Jews gassed, I bet survivors of that little cleansing would like some compensation, and of course the Germans we killed to free them. What the hell is money anyway? We should give them the latest toys. The guy with the most toys, when he dies, gets to meet St. Peter with a gold star on his forehead. I can't believe we actually compensate civilians for war-time casualties. Two thousand lousy bucks. Just like a stimulus package, Bout useless. But it's a great way to spend some tax dollars and deplete Social Security! We don't need that old fashioned retirement anymore. We're going to spread the wealth and make everybody as poor as everybody else. We'll be equally miserable and the rich ole government will take real good care of us. History....they don't teach that anymore, it's too instructive. Like our constitution is such a negative thing. Always limiting government. They're making their own rules now anyway. Sort of silent ones you never hear about. You know our newest Health and Services guy was appointed without any congressional hearings, naw they don't need us to find out he's all for socialized medicine, it'd spoil the rest of the apples in the Obama basket of good guys. Well they're actually very bruised apples but you don't know that. At least the news won't tell you.

g-night I don't have a happy
ending to this
Suz

Obama money pffft! I got my first unemployment check the other day and the 25 dollar stimulus money sure wasn't in that little check.

We should compensate all these people but yet cut veterans benefits and make vet's jump through hula hoops to even apply.

I think it's time to fire the whole works in Washington.
