Got a mate who set me up nicely with his 45.70. He loaded up a quantity of different loads, from 250gn to 500gn bullets and said here ya go, try these. Now me being a macho ex Infantry SGT said sure, not a problem, easy. Took 2 weeks for the bruises to disappear from my shoulder after the 500's!! wtf Embarassed Bastard. Laughing

I'll stick to my Winchester Mod 94 in, yep, you got it 30.30, and my Weatherby .243. They'll handle anything that "half a housebrick" thrown by a crowbar can, and with more finesse. Cool Laughing

Cheers, Vince

Laughing my A$$ off over you two...After having one of those days at work that makes me wonder why I haven't retired yet (Told one of my mechanics that he was a whiner and sniveler. He told on me to MY supervisor) It's good to be home and enjoying a whiskey and conversing with unknown, but good friends...Thank you guys........ Cheers

Hey, my pleasure Bushy. Never had much to do with anyone from the other side of "Lake Pacific" until a very dear lady friend of mine moved to Missouri to shoot the Bianchi Cup. Through her I have met any number of "good old boys". Unfortunately she passed away 2 years ago with breast cancer, but my friendships with her friends are still going strong. The guys, or gals, I have "met" on HuntingNut do nothing but support the friendship and good feelings I have encountered from the USA.

I have a bottle of 12 year old Glen Fiddich Caoran Reserve that bekons so I'll have one for you mate.

Cheers, Vince

I've had the oppisite happen to me with Winchester with the primers being to hard, then hang firing.

To go somewhat off topic, but still in the defective winchester category Cool

I have to say the sacrriest thing was when i bought a box of new (at the time) WinClean ammo for my .357! I loaded 7 rounds in my revolver and noticed they were quite hot for a factory round after the first cylinder full. When i ejected the cases is when i noticed the primers (ALL) had flowed into the primer pocket radius Shocked ! Well in disbelief i showed my buddy that was with me that day, and he said that has to be a fluke, so he loaded up his Ruger and the same thing happened. I contacted Winchester the next day and was fumed by the responce on the phone.....Well sir, ship us the cases and ammo, and we'll send you a voucher for a box to replace that wtf Mad . I said, Hell no! I just paid $20 bucks for a box of ammo and you want this shipped on my dime......And he said...Well yes sir, you are the one with the complaint and we don't know if it's an actual problem or if you are "unsure" what is happening.... wtf Ok, i held my composure and only said a few more words (four letter) and hung up.

Then i called back and talked to a supervisor (got that other guy fired i hope) and the very next day i had a box, return authorization with pre-paid next day AM delivery Shocked . But, the best part was the supervisor saying he WILL take care of me and make sure i am, and will continue to be a Winchester customer. The next day was Saturday, and i had a case of Winchester ball ammo and another box with a hat, shirt, sweat shirt, and a coffee mug Very Happy .
Yeah, i think this was a bit too much....But damn, i couldn't have asked for a better fix than getting a free shooting fix in Cool . And yes, i did write a letter in appreciation Cool .

Reminds me of my uncle when he shot my 45-70 with my hunting loads... Shocked
I told him to make sure he tucked it into his shoulder real good and held on......... Well he obviously didn't hear me cause when he pulled the switch I heard a dull thudd. Confused Yep he got wacked in the eye with the scope. He handed me my gun and has never wanted to shoot it again. I have found it fun to shoot, after I learned to roll with the punch, so to speak........ Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Oh I had hold of the rifle nice and firm cause I know this guy. I just didn't expect the loads to be loaded with testosterone as well as powder. wtf I can't remember whether the rifle was a
Marlin or a Ruger....doesn't matter cause they are both about the same size. Luckily it didn't have a scope, just open sights. I said to him later, "shooting is supposed to be enjoyable, but shooting that thing is anything but enjoyable". Can't see the sense in lining up a shot knowing full well that it hurts badly at both ends. Having said that, he is smaller than me and loved the rifle. No accounting for taste, eh. Laughing

Cheers Vince

Well you know what they say........ the bigger guys feel the recoil more then the smaller guys... ! Shocked The reason being that it takes more force to move the heavier fellows then the lighter ones. There by the heavier you are the more you would feel the recoil. Sounds good to me cause I'm 210 lbs and about 25 lbs overweight........ sounds about right. Hiding Point Very Happy Very Happy

Hummmm...And I'm 155 and 25 lbs over my life weight...(From age 16 to 58. 130lbs. Quite smokin'). Had a unauthorized dismount from a horse at 58 and broke my foot and my arm. 21 days in bed and I got up and found 25 extra pounds. Have spent the last 5 years trying to figure out how to get rid of them without restartin' smokin' again.... Have no idea what this has to do with recoil though...What was the subject of this string...Ooh yeah...I remember...Primers...I think... Cool I use Winchester, CCI & Federal primers. The only problems in the past that I have had were with the CCI Primers in a Dillon Progressive Press. It turned out that Dillon was having a problem with them due to their hardness. Switched to Winchester & Federals and have not had any more problems.

As far as the piercing problems with your Winchester Primers - Contact Winchester Yesterday!!! This is a MAJOR PROBLEM especially if you are using starting loads. They need to know immediately. Also if you have not, DO NOT USE THEM UNTIL THE PROBLEM IS RESOLVED AND DO NOT FIRE ANY MORE OF THE AMMUNITION THAT YOU HAVE LOADED. I don't mean to shout but your Safety and those around you is more important than a few hundred rounds. Cool
