I know of two instances where a firearm "Doubled" one was a relatives M1 Garand and the other was my little Sterling .22LR.

The Garand's was I believe due to reloaded ammo not using the heavier Mil=Spec primers. Mine was when it was really cold out and I believe the oils "thickened" to where the firing pin was stuck in the fire position.

OK, here is a "what if" just to keep this topic going, and knowing that all of us get along so well.

I have a Marlin 1894s .44 magnum lever.
I'm sighting it in.
Normally I only shoot three shot groups sighting a rifle in.
If I am in agreement with D's and E's posts, instead of thee shots, I would fill the tube with the ten rounds that it holds, just so some liberal:-( hiding in the bushes won't go telling my newly elected democrat liberal:-( Governor on me.

How is THAT one for stirring things up??? Nananana Nananana ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL Salute Salute Salute Flag Flag Flag Flag Flag Haha Haha Haha Haha Haha

One thing I will say in support of Dimitri's comment mate...it happened in Canada, and it happened in Australia...the ANTIs will grab any opportunity to nibble away at the rights of firearms owners. Let it be known that you only "require" or allow (read as "want") a reduced number of rounds in your magazine that is capable of holding many more, and the argument will be that you do NOT need any more than five rounds and as such there is no reason why you should have a magazine, or firearm, capable of holding more than those five rounds.

Don't laugh at this mate...it has happened in a number of countries. We are no longer allowed a pistol of calibre greater than .38 without special approval and justification from the relevant authorities...something that is extremely difficult to get. The ANTIs played a role in this mate.

Cheers, Vince

over 5 years of shooting 3 leagues a year, with an average of 40 shooters per league, I haven't had any mishaps, and I feel in complete control.

The 5-round limit gave you that feeling? Would you have felt better if it was 4 and less if it was 6? Sounds like it was more the rate of fire that kept you felling more in control.

I find it illogical that limiting the number of rounds in your magazines makes your range safer. I have never been on a range that has such a restriction nor have there been concerns for safety.

SJ, it does make things safer. When you shoot a FAL in semi-auto till the barrel colours white, you don't need a trigger anymore and only the number of rounds in the magazine will limit your boost... so one can make a full-auto out of any semi-auto that's good quality. Smile

The only ranges I've experienced a round-limit on were for matches that were meant to be "revolver neutral". These were 6-round limits intended to level the playing field between autos and revolvers during timed events. They didn't take reload times into consideration, but at least everyone was shooting the same number of rounds before mandatory reloads.

Why I am griping about it is that it happened in the US too. Therefor Eric should honestly know better. The Clinton Administration and the ATF used the fact a number of ranges in the US said 10 round limits in magazines to supposedly prevent rapid fire (which was a "sound nusance") as a excuse to ban magazines above 10 rounds as well.

Same excuse was used everywhere at the same time, execpt the AWB had a sunset, where as most of the other gun laws do not.

Just for the heck of it, someone google up Bullseye commands.
They are the same as I do. Or more like it, I do the same as Bullseye.
Here they are:

Five round load

Is the line ready?

The line IS ready

Ready on the right, Ready on the left, ready on the firing line.

Then I blow my whistle.

I also have more rules that with cause some of you to not have fun.
If I blow my whistle many times in a row, all shooters are to stop firing, unload, leave their actions open, and stand behind a line that I have away from the firing line.

All the shooters have a lot of fun with this method.
Even now, with shooting not to begin until April, I'm getting phone calls and emails every day, about folks wanting to shoot in the spring.
Something works with what I do, because these Leagues have taken off like a skyrocket.

Last summer, I ran large shoots for Childs Wish [ www.childswish.com ] which had hundreds of sick kids and their families shooting with the same rules. Shoots ran for local Youth Groups also.
All can't wait to do it again this summer, and are on the schedule.

In all seriousness, on the gun control issue, as far as the argument to load every magazine to the max, for the neighbors around our Gun Club, shooters shooting a controlled sounding league, instead of letting things sound like a fire fight, is a much better argument for gun ownership.

Even when I shoot alone or with the kids, I only do five shots at a time for a simple reason.
I am shooting at NRA Bullseye targets, the same as my League shooters shoot at, and want pinpoint accuracy.
I can't hold my pistol any longer without loosing accuracy much more than five shots, and when I shoot at fifty yards, I will rest my pistol every other shot. {I'm 6'2--250# so now weak tit jokes :lol:}

And I believed that you just load 5 rounds because the boxes have 10 rows of 5 rounds... so for a revolver you also close it on the empty chamber.
On the shooting range I even load my lever actions 1 round at the time, straight in the chamber (so you don't ruin your finger on that springthing on the loadopening).

I have a bunch of revolvers, and that is exactly why I load five in them Aloysius.

This sounds like a rate of fire instead of number of rounds in the clip.

Well, especially if you don't practice shooting more than 5. I shoot 20 plus rounds in a few seconds in tactical matches. Safety is not an issue.

If you are having fun shooting 5 at a time ... well can you imaging the fun shooting more if you were not limited. I'd get bored pretty quick.

I get bored just shooting lead down the Range Jim.
For me, it's a big waste of money.
I shoot off-hand, and with my 1911s, I will cover up the ten ring at 25 yards, and put all shots in a 3 inch group at 50 yards.
Everybody has their own way of enjoying shooting, and this is my way.
I sure think that its great if a guy wants to rapid fire all day long if he enjoys it.
I just like to trying to shoot groups of five inside of a dime, which does happen once in a while.

I plan on going the the Camp Perry Shoots next summer, if my lovely Wife sees fit to let me go, and this is the type of shooting that I will be competing in.

I have a couple of shooters that shot for the Marine Shooting Team many years ago, and we have a lot of fun in an afternoon shooting even if we don't put two tons of lead in the backstop.
However, all of our lead can be found in spots not much bigger than a shot glass.

I've been on both sides of this issue and find both have it's merits.
Some like to run and gun and some prefer a controlled firing sequence and accuracy. I personally find they compliment one another.......My scores got better in both disciplines when I shot them simultaneously.
