Cleaining up the M&P 15-22 Saturday after a romp betweixt the bushes...never really looked up in this part of the upper but...man what I found- the guy at the factory went ballisitc with the de-brurr grinder removing the flash from the ejection port. Holl-eee-sh***!!! Now way I could do this with a rod, this polymer is super tough stuff. And, the texture of the marks is feathered by a die grinder spinning out of control. I thought they were cracks at first but- they are grinder marks. Pure and simple.

I thought S&W was supposed to be some super uber-wicked nice facility with all best crafstmen and such- how this made it out of inspection is totaly beyond me. Whether or not they act as stress risers I don't know time will tell. You can see one of them curling around the cut-out like it wants to run. Would yuo buy a used gun that looked like this? Surely not a NEW one! I'm pissed!

This gun was a speical deal...the Magpul MOE. NOT cheap. They are getting a wicked HOT letter with pics from me. I am NOT pleased about this. I wore out two mallets on the bench last night...
IDIOTS with power tools!

Stovy, my oldest had to send his MP 15-22 back to the factory due to a broken extractor. We shot about 200 rounds standard velocity 22lr and all of a sudden it just quit. We took his rifle to my house and stripped it down and found the extractor was in 2 pieces plus there was also another piece missing that we never found. We called S&W and they gave us a rso # and shipped it to them. It's only been 8 days since we shipped it, but looking at your pic and blowing it up, it looks like something might have gotten caught on the bolt assembly as the lines are to irregular for a grinding job at the factory, just my 02 cents worth. Also I did notice right near the bolt face, opposite grinding? Check your extractor and make sure no shavings or metal is missing.

Extractor was common, mine is a 2011, has the upgrade, or so I'm told. This was clearly done with a burr tool, same marks on the eject port. Also- look again it was done prior to letting in the barrel. You can see the barrel port clean up that covers some of them. Never had a stovepipe either. Ever. Bolt is perfect et al.

Im pissed!

This is exactly why I get my guns from Davidson's. They are the best whe n it comes to this. Send it back, get a new one. Bingo. Bummer is this thing is dead nuts on- I mounted the RD and it's spot-on ZERO'd for 20y- didn't move a dial. Sight's are zero'd for 50y. God what a great gun.

if it was a CF I would say you got a primer anvil stuck under the bolt... Since it is a good shooter - I would just keep shooting and not clean the grime off of the marks so I would not see them....

Yep.
It's a Davidson's gun and I've documented it so no worries. I'll bet I'm not the only one with this complaint. Pretty obvious it aint a stovepipe or something I did. Just pisses me off cuz it was not a cheap .22LR and man it shoots and I don't wanna send it back! So I'll live with it and see if anything propogates from these marks.

S&W does have a reputation for somewhat spotty quality at times. It could be worse...it could be like the bad old days when Smith was sending .38 Specials out with .22-caliber barrels!
