Its gonna be a big one . Hope everyone fairs well that has to deal with this storm. I guess it will be coming through my area Sunday .. The forecasts don't look too good for the eastern shore.

We were planning to rent a house at the beach for later this year and it looks like Irene has a bead on it ... Guess we'll find out next week whether we're going or not. On the positive side they think we'll feel very little effect here at home.

Latest news shows it heading further east, so there is a chance it wont be as bad as the news shows. Best wishes for you all in its path though

Looking at the Wunderground.com website, it appears that the storm has eased to a Category 2 hurricane now. If it continues to loose power then, fingers crossed, it could well be a fizzer...I hope.

Well I just got power back. Lost it for about 12-14 hours . No tree's down but branch's all over the place and no home damage . It was a windy rainy nite somewhere around 6-8 inches of rain in about 12 hours. Now it's sunny .

Irene was centered over me right about an hour ago, and it only brought alot of rain and some wind (38 to 70 mph). It has been raining since around 8 A.M. but it is not a hurricane anymore just a storm. The total rain fall is expected to be around 4 inches.

I spent 8 hours at our Emergency Operations Center today. The storm dropped 4.6 inches of rain, not the 8 to 12 inches that was forecast. Never listen to the TV or radio news folks, they never get it right. Only go to the national Weather Service website because they are not allowed to hype the weather.
We had a few 911 calls that nearly sent me over the edge. A lady called to announce that her church had canceled services today. Who gives a da**? A local bar called 911 to report they had electric power, but their cable service was out and their patrons like to watch sports channels and they were about to open for business. There was a car stuck in deep water after going around our road closed signs. The driver left the scene, but called 911 to make sure his car was OK. Finally, we closed a road due to deep water, trees across power lines and a road surface that was undermined by water flows. The signs were missing and we kept getting 911 calls about the road. Upon investigation, the signs were found in a neighbors front yard after he moved them because he did not like them.
We lost power and I had a bit of water in my basement. While waiting for the power to come back on, I dipped 200 buckets of water out of the sump pump hole. I did not want to burn up my sump pump. The power came back on after 8 hours. Now the ladies will admire my biceps when I take my shirt off. All the best...
Gil

I haven't heard any reports of looting, etc. in NC, VA and the rest. Makes you think, huh!

The remains of Irene will pass north of here in about four days time, no doubt it'll be wet & windy for a day or so.
Goodbye Summer(what there was of it.....).
