I usually buy my boots kinda snug in the width but plenty long so I can have lots of toe box, (nothing is colder then a cramped toe box) will the kangaroo ones stretch around the balls if I oil them really heavy a few times with neats foot oil? I have heard kangaroo doesn't stretch like cow.

I'm not sure what you guys are refering to, but I genuinely would like to hear from some one who has had a pair of 'roo boots

The GP boots we were issued by the Airforce were supposedly kangaroo leather.
They did eventually break in really well, nice and soft around the ankles and in the crease behind your toes.
We used to soak them in water and wear them around wet to get them to loosen up, occasionally had to bash the crap out of the heel reinforcement to stop it wearing through your heel.
While still damp we used to rub in dubbin, or any other wax/oil based leather dressing. Took a few days but they did break in.
They will stretch a little bit, if you want them wider wear 2 pairs of sock while the boots are wet.
The uppers last a very long time and with the right boot wax are waterproof for a few days living in fox holes in crap weather.

Beware of kiwis, they have twisted minds and do strange things with beasts.......

Hope this helps

Cheers

Ah, the dreaded GP boots. Still have a few pairs of them...even have a pair of black Dunlops that have the stainless steel plate in the sole (Vietnam issue). These days I wear the latest issue boot. Not too bad, a little heavy, but still comfy.

Cheers, Vince

I just did a search on Australian issue gp boot and they refer to jungle boots I was in the 25th i.d. and we were issued jungle boots I didn't want any with vents. but thanks for the reply on the properties of 'roo hide.

Roo hide's light and super tough. Gotta pair of Cabela's uplanders and they were very nice. I too like a narrow instep with toe room- I stub my toe a lot on uneven ground and rocks. Knocked the toes and split the welts outta lots boots on sharp rocks and stuff. Roo skin aint cheap either. $$$ Had to send my Cabela's back, were closeouts and such the deal and I cant afford full price ones- they were just that wee bit too small in the toe box. Man were they nice if they were a tad longer I could walk all day in them.

Irish Setter Black Bear 10"

Niiiiice boot...been wearing them to work the past two days and at home. Toe box is juuuuust touching the side of my rt big toe with my thick socks on. With my foot all the way up I can just sneak a fniger in behind my ankle so there barely enough room. A wee bit smaller than I'd like but another half size would berak-in too big so I'm going to risk it and see what happens on a hike locally. Once the toe box softens some and my foot adjusts I might be good to go. I got them a half size big but they came in barely big enough. Are people's feet getting smaller? Fingers crossed!

Boots--gotta have em. Have two pairs of Danners. A heavy duty pair for those long days chasing biggame in rugged country, and a light weight pair for a day spent chasing birds. When the snow gets deep and the temps get below zero, I have a nice insulated pair of Columbias. Very Happy
