I live in Port Angeles Washington, the most northwest tip of the continental states. I have a 1984 Honda XL 250 that is dual sport. I also have my CPL for Washington, my question is this. If you have a loaded rifle in your truck, it is illeagle. If you have a pistol loaded in the truck and it is on your persons it is ok. Would the same be true for the rifle, being leagle if it was on your person? The reason I ask is that when hunting or riding my bike I will carry my 22 pistol in a holster on my shoulder. This should be leagle as long as it doesn't effect my poaching status. But sometimes I will carry my SKS with a folding stock, 5 round magazine, and soft point bullets in case I see a bear or coyote or cougar. We have pretty small black bears compared to other places. But I have seen game wardens issue tickets for having a loaded riffle strapped across a quad, not chambered, saftey off ready to go.....just had the 4 shot magazine in the rifle with the bolt closed.
Just wondering if you all had any insight on the idea of my motorcycle being a street leagle motorized vehicle with a lisence plate, and having a loaded rifle or pistol on my person. I would understand that I would be ok as long as I kept them on my person......

Hi Don,
These are all good questions to ask your State Attorney Generals Office. The more people you ask the more different answers you will get. Go to the source of legal information in your state and get the straight word.
Every state has its own laws on legal carry for firearms either handguns or long guns. So what is legal in one state will mean prision time in another state.

Your concealed pistol permit is only for pistols on your person whether in or out of your vehicle. You can legally lock your loaded gun in your car if it is out of view and the car is locked up. Rifles on the other hand cannot be loaded in your vehicle. You can carry a rifle in your car to and from a range, your gunsmith, your home and any registered service outlet. In all cases the rifle should be unloaded and disabled (bolt separate from rifle, etc.). Paul from Washington
