Hey doublejs,
Yeah, its a Super Walmart, you know groceries too, just wish they had less to do w/China. They have the best ammo prices. What county are u in, Washington, Green? Your in the 4 point area right? You should have big deer around there.

Been a few weeks since I posted. I was finally able a bag a doe on the last day (in PA). I could have killed a doe a number of times, but was waiting for a buck of course.
Here's a quick thought on the State of hunting I've seen here in the Keystone State:
Less deer seen than in prior years
Bigger bucks
Less hunters
Enthusiasm of youth hunters going way down
More hunters "leasing" land to hunt so as to control their land's deer herd
More coyotes
More bears
Warmer winters at least where I go
That about says it all!!

Blowing the dust off this one...
Reading your posts, I feel I just have to comment on the small world. My first real deer hunt was in Wilcox, PA in 1988. Coming from Quebec where I had only ever been moose hunting, I was ill-prepared for the opening day spectacle. I was so astonished that I completely forgot about my rifle. I counted 55 animals within the first 30 minutes of arriving at my "spot". One almost hit me. And the reports from every angle - it sounded like a fireworks display.
Last time I was down was '98 or '99. Definitely not the same.

Wilcox is right above our place at St. Mary's, Elk county. We have elk but no moose.
Not sure about the number of deer taken in 1988, but for 07-08 362,000 was the total, 136,000 were bucks.
I thinks Pa. ranks pretty high in the country for whitetails. 05-06 number was 409.000. That was the fith highest according to the game comm.

PA must still be attractive to some people, at least SW PA. As my friend sold 4 nonguided deer hunts on his property. Some for more than one day also. One guy was from Georgia.
He's using the money to help pay for his elk hunt this fall.
