The resellers are trying to make big money by buying it at retail and then trying to sell it at $50 a brick on line and at gun shows. I won't pay those prices. The number of shooters here in the US has doubled in the last 5 years or so. Panic buying is a self fulfilling action. Right now though the US has more folks buying and shooting 22 rounds than they are producing.
The manufacturers are adding machinery to make more in a 24 hour day but it will be a year or so until they are readily available again. The price might go up to offset the cost of new equipment but it will not be $50 a brick.
I have exchanged Emails with a couple of manufacturers and they tell me that they simply cannot keep up with the demand. The reason it has taken so long is that the manufacturers thought it was a short term event but have since recognized a real need for more production. The first manufacturer up and running will be ahead of the others in sales - and new customers. The scalpers are going to be left with a lot of stuff that they can't sell when it is over.
