in missouri all white wild turkeys are to be killed anytime of the year with any gun you have.
they ruin the wild population because white wild turkeys are wild turkeys mixed with tame turkeys.

Interesting Spacedone,
Didnt know the origin of Wild white turkey's eventhough I did take that boring long 8 hour Turkey hunting course to get my license here, it wasnt mentioned in the course they more or less just drove in safety guidelines we should fallow

I heard that claim about white turkeys some time back, thought it was a joke. Couldn't find anyone to confirm the story. Is there any way we can find out for sure?
Keep it coming...

George,
Only way to figure that one out is to call what they call here a "Conservation Officer" or a "Wild life officer" and confrom that white turkeys in the wild are not considered wild and theirfor arnt protected by the law.

here in missouri i have been told this by several conservation officers.
tame turkeys mixing with wind turkeys can destroy the breed of we do not take care of the problem.

Yeah, that's what I'm going to do, contact the conservation dept. & see what they have to say. I plum forgot all about the white turkey thing until it came up again here, so, I may as well look into it.
Keep it coming...

I've seen a few white turkeys here, (Eastern Appalachians) and several that are mixed. They are frowned upon here and folks are encouraged to "harvest" these birds as they DO mix and degrade the wild species.
Always a good idea to check local game laws so you'll know, then let your conscience be your guide. My conscience has guided me to skin 'em, lay 'em on their back and fillet the breast out like a cat feesh. Slice this in 1/4" slices (across the grain), flour ever so lightly and brown in butter.
Your conscience may vary with dietary constraints and the availability of duck sauce.

The commercial market for turkeys today is dominated by a variety known as the Large White, or Broad-Breasted White turkey. It too has wild stock in its background, but was developed through intense selection to create a large, white, fast-growing bird with more breast meat and shorter legs than any previous turkey variety. |
