This is the first day of the early season for hunting Dove in Arizona. I was out at 0530 hours thinking that would be early enough. Not so! I couldn't get to the spot I had in mind as others were already on stand. I couldn't believe the number of hunters that were out there. None the less, I got my limit. I'm happy to say I didn't even use one complete box of ammo. I'll be out there again in the morning. Our early season ends on September 15th and I think I'll only miss 3 days of it.

A weekend ago I spent some time at the skeet range. I think that was time well spent. Dove hunting is just plain fun and requires no moving around, all pass shooting. Got to see quite a few quail too. Guess where I'll be when quial season opens Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

We always have a billion doves around up until about 3 days before the season then we always get a cold snap and they fly to Arizona over night.

I didnt hunt... I was too tired from elk hunting the night before and slept right on in Smile

OK, George..... I left AZ on the 29 to return to the Land of Sand. Returned to Tucson for son to get hitched to lovely AZ lady.

You folks do have a bunch of birds in AZ. Good luck on the quaily birds.
Ed

PS, we plant dove fields here and about half the time, a storm comes up and blows the doves into next year... Sad

Well the early season for Dove is over. I started off using a 12 gauge over/under. I got my limit each time out. Thought I'd give em a chance the last 4 times I went out by using a 410 gauge over/under, now that was fun. Dove season cranks up again in November & I'm looking forward to getting out there again with the 410.

George,
Sounds like you have a leg up on a good season for sure.

I like to use a 20ga gun for doves and a 28ga for quail. Last year I picked up the 28ga Citori Superlight at the Tulsa show. The 28 is a very nice gun to carry in the field for quail.
