Teen Hurt While Hitting Bullets With Hammer

LAKE LUZERNE, NY - A teenager who puts bullets in a vise and hits them with a hammer to empty the brass shell casings was wounded in the abdomen by a bullet that he hit. According to the police report, the 18-year-old had been discharging .223-caliber rounds by placing them in a steel vise, putting a screwdriver on the primer and striking the screwdriver with the hammer. Deputies were called to his home after one of the bullets went approximately a half-inch into his abdomen. He was treated at a local hospital and released. Authorities say the teen told them he was trying to empty the rounds to collect the brass casings for scrap.

Thoughts ?? wtf

Dimitri

i know a guy from that area of new york.. yeah i could see someone trying this Laughing but ok now it only went 1/2 inch into him? hmmm weird.. if he was doing this for scrap brass, i can think of a bunch of better ways to discharge them, like shooting them at some paper, or ground hogs... wonder now if the cops are going to charge him for discharging the ammo, couldnt get him for dischaging a firearm.. time to clean out the gene pool

hopefully this will wise him up. I actually did a lot of stupid things in my younger years with experimenting with ammunition, blackpowder, and other dangerous items, and have the scars to prove it. I am a little wiser now, I think. I actually ended up in the emergency room when I was 15 doing something very similar to this guy.

As one of the guys I work with would say: "Dang man!" Talk about a hater." That was harsh MR. Vince. Notice the emphasis on "mister" there Vince? HA HA. I have said a whole lot worse so I think you be fine. I saw the same article. Did you happen to run across the recall in there too on Winchchester .22LR's? Seems as some of them managed to get double charged.

someone should explain to this kid that if he'd use a firearm, he could actually aim at himself!

In metel shop class, us guys used to put shotgun primers under a steel plate and heat the plate so the primer would go off.
I remember that our shop teacher would really get fired up about it pretty bad.
What the kid did was stupid, but looking back, I think that some of the things that I did would be placed in the same stupid room as this guy.
I just got away with it, and he didn't. Shocked

Eric

Hi! My name is "Pot", I am here to talk about Mr. "Kettle" - Because I too was not that smart in my youth - had something to do with sitting on a coffee can with a lit cherry bomb underneath it to get into our club - puts a little hitch into your giddy-up if you know what I mean! Still can't figure out why the wife calls me "Maxwell House" when I bend over in the shower. I have often thought that it is too bad that there isn't a mandatory class for some folks similar to that of traffic violators having to take a traffic safety class by order of the court(I would have been a great candidate). The class could be geared towards people that fire their weapons or ammunition recklessly. This could be a weapon safety class followed by community service at a major VA center or trauma center that cares for patients injured by gunshot trauma. It would really bring the "scared straight" approach to realism to see what these little bitty projectiles can and do to people. It wouldn't cure the problem as a whole, but it sure would make an impact on those who had the benefit of the class!

We made a firecracker gun. Very Happy Cut a slit in a piece of galvinized pipe and inserted a TNT sidefuser Shocked with the fuse sticking out of the slit. Screwed the cap on over it and dropped a marble down the front. Held it at arms length and pointed it at the 55 gal trash drum about 30 feet away. Don't think we ever hit that drum, but we did nail the neighbors window about fifty yards away with a marble. Shocked
