I've looked around here and in a few manuals and can not find any loads specifically for Winchester bulk 55gr PSP in 22-250.

This particular Win bullet performs very reliably for me in out-of-the-box Winchester Super-X, chronographed at 3780fps. Win and Rem websites are useless in this regard.

Am interested in your suggestions as to a good starter load for this particular bullet....or for Remington's equivalent 55gr PSP pills.

I've a good hunch either one in 100 count bulk bags (cheap but good) would serve me well for regular out to 300yds practice.

Here's a pretty good place to get reloading data for most weight bullets with Hogdon, Winchester and IMR powders.

Link to Hogdon Reloading Data Center

Thanks....but I've already been to Hodgdon's site, also have their manual right here. Bullets listed are by Nosler, Barnes, Sierra, Hornady, Speer - you know, the fancy stuff - and nothing for Win or Rem.

Certainly, I can extrapolate from recipes for similar looking bullets, but that's the looong and expensive way to work up a good load. Have RL15, Varget and H380 on hand to play with if nothing comes up here.

The way I'm reading this, is you haven't purchased any bullet's yet. Unless your prepaired to copy this load to a T, why is this so vital? If you are trying to tweek a buck, you need to go about it another way. This is a pretty hot load, which is going to eat up your brass a lot quicker. Plus more powder to the load. Here is what I came up with out of my old Win. book.

This is close but far from being exact. 55gr. SP........ 39gr. of Win. 760 powder MAX.......Win. Primmer......Win.case trimmed to length is 1.902 .....over all max. length w/bullet seated is 2.350.....3675 fps.
I don't show anything for the 55gr. PSP. I'm not saying Win. didn't use the 55 PSP in there X loads, i just don't show it.

My book shows this bullet was used as a 222 rem. mag load, also in there 223 and 5.56

IMO, Go with the Sierra or Hornady bullets. Not suggesting what bullet type as I know nothing about your rifle, twist an barrel length. But there is tons of info on these two bullet manufacture's working with several different powder's.

The only thing I like about Winchester, is there brass.

I'm with gunrac and my Winchester data shows the same thing.

The thing is that you can use load data for 55 gr bullets for almost any 55 gr bullet. I would make exceptions for moly coated bullets and solid copper bullets. That load data might be different. Even if you found on the Winchester website where it said "Best load: 38.5 grains W760 with WWLR primers in WW cases COL 2.350" " chances are about 1 in 10 that that is the best load in YOUR RIFLE.

It's all a crap shoot. Pick a well know 22-250 powder like Varget, IMR4064 or H380, look up the load data in any manual, start at the low end or medium range and work your way up. YOUR GUN WILL SHOW YOU WHAT IT LIKES.

Personally I shoot a 55 gr Nosler Ballistic Tip (not an expensive bullet) with 35.5 gr Varget, CCI BR-2 primer, Nosler brass, COL 2.517", seated on the lands and Lee Factory Crimp Die crimped. But, that will probably not be the best load in your rifle. There are no shortcuts.

Thanks woods and gunrac. Twist is 1in14.

You are right, I have not purchased the Win 55 PSP bulk bullets. I would like to because they happened to group really well for my rifle as loaded by the Winchester factory in Super-X, velocity +/-3700'. So I've a hunch they would do better as reloads.

Other bullets that I have on hand are the Hornady V-max in 55gr, and the Nosler HPBT Custom Comp in 52gr. Am still working up a load for the 52s, trying to tighten it down by a couple tenths at 100yd. The V-max will be a whole new game.

Got everyone's point about how to deal with the Win 55 PSP bulks:
look for a similarly constructed bullet of the same weight and ideally of the same length of body less ogive, then carefully work up a load.

It's not that complicated then....Just pick a load from reliable data sources. Start at the bottom end of the range, or 10% below max. Look for signs of pressure. Chrono as you go. Load more looking for the sweet spot and shoot those. Adjust seating depth. Keep good notes. Pay attention. Do it all over again. Have fun. And so on. :-)

Thanks.

Your gun is going to like the better stuff. I recently bought an turned a MARKII in the 14 twist. This was my first 22-250. The fella thru in 100 reload's, Sierra 52gr. HPBT with 34 gr.IMR 4895 pushing it. He assured me it shot quite well at 100 yd. It was cold an I just wanted to make sure it was a straight shooter at 200 yd. for yote huntin. Shooting 3 shot groups, 1st one started off about 3" to the right. I thought cool, this is doable. I finally got it move over. I already figured out this was going to be a dirty gun, as the groups kept getting tighter the more I shot. I covered my last group with a quater. Keep it a week an sold it. To me this was a money makin gun. I bought a new 12 series Savage in 9 twist. This also is going to ge a dirty gun. After barrel break-in and scope adj. was I impressed with this load at 100 yd. Can't wait for the weather to break to really start playin.
