I have an older pair of Red Wing boots that are very comfortable and fit like a glove. But, they leak like the Titanic! In addition, the leather is about as water repellant as a cotton T-shirt. I'm looking for the best way or best product to make these boots at least water resistant if not water proof. I've tried silicone spray which did not work. Any suggestions??
Thanks, Steve

Snow Seal is a good product to waterproof old boots. It wont help leaky soles though.

I second the sno seal . You can rub the boots down with this and then park them somewhere warm like next to a floor heater vent and turn them once in awhile and retreat them a second time . Great stuff . The only thing better is 100% raw silicone salv such as is made by Dow Corning but not sure where a guy might find it as is more of a commercially used product in factorys to preserve rubber seals where they come into contact with high heat . I have used this in the past and is superior to anything I have ever seen. Is purely synthetic and does not promote rot. Used it on boots, baseball gloves, door and window seals, you name it . Might find it by web searching .

Don't know what Sno-Seal is or what's in it.
I'm still wearing an old pair I got about 15 years ago, and I just used mink oil paste. Used my wife's tooth brush to work it into the stitching around the sole and welting at the back.
They have never leaked. The leather remain very soft, no cracks, splits, or tears.
And, the stuff is real cheap.

I use Mink Oil paste as well, Works great on leather. The silicone spray doesn't do much for leather boots.
Les, did your wife ever find out?

Well, now you understand I washed that damn thing and used alcohol to clean it but, yes she figured out what that nasty taste was. We had a pretty big rumble that day, she rumbled and I ran away laughing.
