Hey fellas, I am out of bullets to reload for my 270 win and was wanting to try some 150 gr Nosler partitions this time. I always used 130 gr ballistic tips with 53 gr of IMR 4350 before, but might want to use it for someting a little tougher than deer, like hogs. I was wondering if anybody had any good loads for an old modle 110 Savage ? I have some IMR 4350, 4831, H450, and a little bit of IMR 3031. Any prospects ?

OK I do have something for you.nick harvey manual states that 3031 data andar2206 data is interchangable with caution. my mulwex manual gives a ar2206 max load of42grains behind a 150 grn projectie. my old smoke pipe finds the ar2206 load fine and dandy. hope that helps.

did you cheek the powder company's web sight, my Richard lee book has about 20 or 25 loads listed. Most of this data is online at each powder companies web sight . Good luck and let us know how it goes. I 've been playing with getting a 270 win or WSM because I came across this bullet.

Want a good shooting WSM, buy the Browning A-Bolt!!!

A few points about loading for the WSM’s.
They set the operating pressure of these cartridges at 65,000psi to be able to compete with other magnums. Although safe, you’ll probably not find your best accuracy at these levels.
Also, don’t be afraid to jump the bullets. Short mags have gotten a reputation for seating them deep.

Well, fellas, I can't seem to find a load for those 150 gr Partitions in the 270. So I'm thinking of trying my Marlin 45-70 handloaded with some 400 gr Remington SP's & H322 powder to around 1800-1900 fps. I can get 2" groups @ 100 with open sites. Not a long range rifle by any means, but it should knock'em down if I can hit them. The thing kicks like a mule though. Anybody have any thoughts on if this is a good desicion to use the 45-70 or should I keep trying with the 270 ? Are there any other heavy 270 bullets tough enough for big wild hogs anybody's had experience with ?

I'm no expert but I love my .45-70. It's a Marlin 1895G. I've shot a 300# hog and a couple small bears with it using factory 300gr Winchesters. If the placement was better on the hog, I have no doubt that it would have dropped him. Left a large exit wound taking out the rib at about 60yds. A friend dropped a large bear with his single shot .45-70 using factory 300gr.

I'm not trying to talk you out of finding a good load for your .270. I'm sure you can find a good bullet/powder combo to suit your purposes.

Did you look at the "Reloading Database" here on the site? There are a couple of loads for 150 gr bullets. One is with IMR 4350.

I checked my One Book/One Caliber. Nosler didn't list any of those powders with the 150 gr. partition but other companies had loads for 150 gr. bullets using IMR 4350, 4831, & H450.

Hope this helps.

I'm a .45-70 fan too. I've decided that a handloaded 350 grain bullet at around 1600-1700 ft/sec would be just the ticket in my Marlin but I haven't developed a load yet. Personally, if I was to pick between the .45-70 and a .270 for big hogs I'd go with the .45-70. My choice isn't based on hunting experience, just studying.

I have loaded some Hornady 350 gr. with H4198 and got good results out to 200 yds. The most accurate load I used was 48 gr. at around 2,000 fps.

I haven't been able to get the Rem 405's to shoot well out of my gun. The friend I mentioned gets great accuracy with them using IMR 3031 at ?1500 fps. I don't remember how much powder he used.

I hope I can find a load that works in my gun using the 405's because I've got a lot of them.

man use your .270 they hit pigs so hard they go down like a lead balloon. I used to live on a farm where we had heaps of pigs and the .270 dropped them no fuss with factory 130grn loads. norma were great and you get good brass. the old school silvertips were the best. as for big pigs they just go down harder yeah Ive heard stories of bullets exploading on the sheild but ive shot pigs with 1" thick sheilds no problems.

back to your .270 win, I've had great accuracy and predictable performance w the 160's and imr 7828. My load is close to the max in the nosler#5 it's a mod 70 featherwieght classic. I shot two less than .75 inch apart than gave the rifle to my little brother who put one between my two. beats all I ever saw a 3 shot group way under 1" with two shooters behind the gun, I second what elvis says about silvertips, Most of my brass started out as old shiny 130 silvertips last check there were still some on the shelf at the hardware store where i buy alot of my ammo.
