Bulging may not have been the best word to describe what I was trying to convey!!!

Yup...50 handgun and 20 rifle. I'm a bit "anal" about my reloads...

And "bulge" is a good word. Just not good for reloads...

Boy--am I being taken to school on this post.

OK--I have a question for you all.

I have never had any problems using just three dies with my 1911s, and I have great accuracy.

BUT is there any reason that I should start using the FCD on my 45s???

If there is, I think that I will get one.

Eric

Don’t start trying to fix what isn’t broke!!! (sounds better with aint)

The Lee factory crimp die is nothing more than a taper crimp die (your using one now) with a carbide resizing ring in it.
All die makers have taper crimp dies available for semi-auto cartridges.
I’ll be the first to admit that Bushy’s questioning of why I’m doing things this way is justified.
I’d rather be shooting than sorting brass and adjusting dies all the time.
If I was after the utmost accuracy I would definitely change the way I do it and the FCD would be the first thing to go!!!
My load is more than accurate enough for the type of shooting I’m doing.

Just last week some one brout me a cartridge that he had loaded 50 of they were cast .45acp's they all had light primer strikes at first I thought he had trimmed them to much then while I had the calipers out I measured his o.d. he had crimped them so hard in his taper crimp die it looked like his cartridges might fall in too deep. does this sound possible ? bit was my only explanation . and I don't do very much pistol reloading just rifle

Fn, that sure could be it, .45 Autos headspace on the case mouth. I just recently started loading .45 Auto (I've loaded 9 x 19mm and .40 S&W for years) and I use just enough "crimp" to remove the bell from the case mouth.

Years ago I watched a guy shooting a 1911 that was having major problems. He even offered to sell the "S.O.B!" I looked at his handloaded ammo and saw that he'd failed to bell the case enough for the cast bullets and the case mouth had shaved lead off the bullet. The lead shavings were preventing the cartridge from chambering correctly. I did ask him how much he wanted for the gun but he backed out. I honestly don't remember if I told him what the real problem was.

I just ordered the unique and large pistol primers from Cabelas ( back ordered ) The hazardous shipping fee sucks $20 on top of regular shipping Crying or Very sad .
No one local has any and they don't no when they will get any I did find some Winchester white box at walmart today and got a few boxes that should last me until my orders come in.
