Looking for new moderators

Joe has done a great job so far, but with the recent increase in spammers I can only assume it will keep increasing.

If anyone is interested in becoming a moderator reply here. Its a fairly easy job, the primary tasks is to watch for and help deal with spammers. They normally get dealt with quite quickly and i would like to see that continue Smile

Rules:

A potential mod must be a member of the website for at least 1 year, have at least 100 posts, able to visit the site at least semi-frequently and be technical enough to follow instructions on deleting / moving posts.

Potential Mods can choose to be over a specific forum or forums.

I'd be happy to deal with spammers so long as that was all - been too involved once before elsewhere to do more. Not that I've ever seen any misbehaviour here. Laughing

DallanC, if you get in a pinch, I might be able to help. I just got two new work assignment this week and both projects think I'm working full-time for them. I'll know in two weeks, if I will have much time available to provide support.

I could help if my work IP gets un banned. I made four clicks in 10 seconds today thinking I was on the favorites button when I was on the back button and got my IP banned for flooding.....

Wait, HuntingNut blocked you for flooding? I have made some changes recently on the website to try and control bot flooding. I would be interested to know if its affecting users.

I am the same as Elvis...I am on every day, with a few exceptions, and will continue to pass on when and where I can identify a spammer. I am also happy to assist where possible.

I too have got as far as the "12 seconds, next time you will be banned" message a couple of times as well Dallan. Haven't pushed the point though.

I'll keep spotting spammer and yell out if needed.
Usually I log on a few times a day, and now that I have internet at home, I also login early mornings, late nights and weekends Smile

Re. moderator, can we vote on this?

We should have moderator in another timezone so you can cover the 24 hours spammer attacks. And added to that, Vince is the holder of most email addresses around I think..

Beside the fact that I strongly think we ought to have moderators that supply beer!
And we the beer receivers would be deputy moderator so to speak Very Happy

I'd be happy to assist anyway I can. Also I have been blocked from this site in the last week which forces me to acquire a new ip address using dhclient -r eth0.

yeah, i made a post and tried to get back to the search for new posts page, normally i clicck back three times to do that but a blue flood control bar came up and said i needed to wait 10 seconds to do anything so i went to click favorites to get out of the site and missed favorite and hit back again and it said my IP address was banned

I have had trouble gettingback to the home page but if you go to forums then, the posts since last visit, it gets there quicker.

Not sure who made these forums, but if you had any control over them a "report spam" button would do wonders.

It would send a PM to the moderators and if say three people reported it would hide the post until the mods take action.

I disabled the flood protection. If anyone's ips got accidently banned let me know and can fix it.
