|
Decided to get organized so I put up some pegboard to put up my tools instead for ease of access.
Been drilling out some 2x4's with holes to hold my chisels and punch set as pegboard hooks are not ideal for either of them. Need to get them onto the wall soon.
Got my drill on the other wall (to the left from my position when I took that picture).
Now to build 3 new benches.

Maybe one day...if I ever get my garage back after moving all of my daughter's crap and corruption out...I will do the same, although I think I would much prefer to have a free standing toolbox on casters.
Good job 'Mitri...next job is to put the "shadows" on the backing board mate.
Cheers, Vince

You need to hang some flowers in those ceiling hooks Dimi! That would really look nice. Plant some spider plants and they'll keep the air clean too.
yes I'm

My tools have always been the only organized thing in my life, as I hate doing a job and being unable to find things.

I would too, but there is limited space (its only 11ft by 6ft 6in) in the basement, so I wanted to keep the floor space empty instead of loading it up with tool boxes as well.
Going to build 2 work benches, 4ft by 27in (3pcs of 2x10 for the top), plus a longer bench to use as a sawing table of around 8ft by 19in (2pcs of 2x10 hardwood probably to make it last) plus a drill press beside the long table. Giving me just enough space to walk from bench to bench without having to squeeze in.
Going to drill a pattern of 3/4" holes on the sawing table when I get it built, so I may lay pieces of wood and use clamps to hold it down (with spacers to protect the table top), so I can saw easily without anything shifting. With clamps like these:

The former tenant that was renting the downstairs put them there. Decided not to take them out lest I hear complaints about big holes in the ceiling. So tightened them back up as they were loose, and left them there.

Dimi If you're going to make some jigs to use HERE'S a great one for making over-lapping joints, dados and such with precision. I've made a couple as gifts, they work great. Scroll down on the web page, there's some explanations and great photos of how to use it. HERE'S a video of a commercially made one

Dimitri, I started working in the shop today, also. Building a barricade for carbine action matches - kneeling through the window, strong & weak side standing. We shoot reactive steel targets at 100 and 200 yards.

Yup, that is where the picture of the clamp came from.

Funny you guys are talking 'bout pegboard, woodworking etc. The reason I have been MIA is because I am now working at three jobs. Here's what I've been up to!

Started the initial framing 2 days ago, then got the bench actually built last night, didn't take too long.
The initial framing ...
The second step ...
The final bench ...
Took about 3 hours in total to put it together, on my own, so I was supporting one side as I would screw the other side in. Could have taken less time, but I used a tiny 7" Japanese type saw I bought from Home Depot to do all the cuts, works like magic though, cuts by pulling instead of pushing, very easy to keep the blade cutting straight that way, and it gives good clean flat saw cut edges, as its meant for dovetail cutting.
All 2x4s in the final construction plus the 2x10 top pieces. Used only 2 screws in every joint this time, instead of the usual 3, holds about the same, but big thing, the desk if you remember that I made, had too many screws so decided to cut back this time around, the tops are screwed in with 8 screws (2 in each 2x4 runner underneath).
Put on my Gray vise, as you can see, and a organizer box. Both made in Canada, as was all the wood, Screws are Taiwanese imports though AFAIK.

Made a video of the completed work area.

Still thinking I need a drill press and a small band saw though.

Go to a lumber yard and see if you can get a scrap of laminate counter top for your work bench. You only need a piece about 24-30" wide. It come in handy for work drilling and glueing etc so that you don't mess up your bench. It will slid up to the lip if your bench is wide enough and if not cut the backsplash off. My dad has a couple or 10 of them in his shop.
By the way the bench looks great
