Just cruising the web and I found this on youtube. New to me, maybe not to you. You can crimp your cases using a torque bar, just like the click stop torque wrench you would use for .....uh....other stuff. Anyway you can get one here, for about $94US. After looking at the video, I'd think you could make one (if you have a torque wrench) by fixing a 1/2" socket to the Lee Press at the same pivot point as the handle, and insert the wrench. Seems simpler to me.

I never seen that either, clicking on the 2nd link where it shows the tool, it seems like the product description used the word "Consistent Crimp" just one to many times for me. Very Happy Besides I think all the dies I have do a good job of "Consistent Crimping" Very Happy

I'll save my money and buy more powder and boolits. Laughing

I have a very (in its day) expensive [click stop] Bonney torque wrench. If I thought that that would do a better job I might try it, but I see a very expensive reloading tool that has no use at my loading bench.

All my cases are trimmed to within +/-.002 of each other, rifle and handgun, and I figure that will get me a consistant crimp every time. I, also, have a calibrated elbow.

No thank you......

Interesting gadget !!!

I can see this being useful/helpful in setting a crimp die up during load development but don't see the need to always use it.

Thanks but I'll keep using the Lee Factory Crimp Die, works great.

stovepipe, your ladder is in the corner over there by the beer. It was in my way when I came in so I just moved it over.. By the way those rungs are getting worn and in bad shape maybe you should think about a new ladder. Very Happy

Haha Haha Haha Haha Haha Haha Haha Haha

You crack me up Stovey...but at least it's you on the receiving end of that damn lash...rather than me fer once.

I like the concept Suz...but I think that it is an answer looking for a non-existent problem. Having said that, I think the Bench Rest crowd will make good use of it...them guys are always looking for an edge, and one of the things they seek is total consistency.

Thanks for the link...it was certainly interesting mate.

Cheers, Vince

Well as much discussion that goes on around here about the technicalities of ballistics, I'd think someone would be interested. Goes to show ya who's serious and who needs a woopin.

Suz...Do you reload any handgun ammunition? And...Have you ever used a "click stop" torque wrench?

As to the handgun ammunition and the crimping there of. If the cases are trimmed to the same length and you operate the press lever equally the crimp will be uniform on all rounds. Rifle isn't that different. I get scoffed at because I trim straight wall cases (even .45 ACP. My Colt 1911 seems to prefer .90" cases).

As to the "click stop" torque wrench. It, also, is subject to the differences in how fast [or slow] you operate it. If you go too fast the set torque will rise.. With that in mind you still have to operate it evenly for all crimps.

If you are a practiced reloader and tend to use an even stroke, which I'm sure you are and do, then what use do you have for an expensive toy other then to show off the the beginner who doesn't know any better.

I'm not going up any ladder. I'm going to stand my ground....She's going to kill me...I just know.
