Well now, here's one for "the goodies".

Education Queensland has done a review of the curriculum and shooting sports are on the agenda.

Schools in for shooting lessons...

I think it's a great idea, but why in the world would the police union be so against it? You would think that the kids learning safety and respect for firearms would be an asset.

These kids might decide to become firearms owners in the future. I don't see this as a bad thing by any stretch of the imagination...but the Police Union President is an ANTI.

Vince, then they should give the good example... the english bobbies...
or does your police think that all decent citizens are at the same line as criminals? But then, when the land is so filled up with criminals, maybe everybody should carry (and not just only the criminals).

The remark by the police union was bordering on bizzare. My experience has been that properly trained young shooters behave more responsibly than those who take up shooting in later life. I have been a range officer for cadets and we stood close behind the shooting line at a ratio of one officer to every five cadets. Strict discipline was maintained and safetydrills were always carried out before live ammo was issued. Our range had been operating since WWII without an injury and those cadets were safer there than riding their bikes. When I was there we used Lee-Enfield .22 training rifles and High-Standard revolvers.

I can only laugh when a individual or group uses the tactic of "laying out dead bodies" on the table to try and force their agenda. Great pic in that article. I love to see female participation like that.

Cadets is an extremely good example of teaching kids safety, responsibility, respect and self discipline. It turned me into a responsible firearms owner.

I was 14 yrs old when I fired my very first firearm, a Lee Enfield .303, closely followed by a .303 Bren gun. Funniest thing you would ever see was Vince, all 4' 9" and 90 lbs, firing the Bren Gun on full auto with a Safety Officer holding my ankles to stope being dragged forward.

Cheers, Vince

Sounds like a good program! My daughter shot competition in Junior ROTC in high school. All those kids went on to be successful in life. Not a single mass murderer in the lot!

I read some of the comments on the article too. Seems you have the same air-headed hoplophobes over there as we have here. I was kind of surprised at their views of the USA but I guess they get their "information" from the same biased media that we do and its probably filtered even more to only present the worst case incidents. In the US today about 80 MILLION gun owners didn't hurt any one.

Queensland Police Union president Ian Leavers seems to have completely ignored the FACT that this program will be carried out under the Queensland firearms laws, the weight of the paperwork WILL equal the weight of the child before a firearm is even produced, safety briefs WILL be given and firearms handling carried out under 100% supervision at an approved range. The firearms will NOT be available to the students at anywhere other than the range and the firing line, they WILL NOT be taking them to school and have more firepower than the QLD police, the guy is an idiot and as so often the case an outright lier, he should be sacked.
I hope it gets up.
The only other worrying thing was the anti views of some of the commenters to the article, seems my catch cry of "I see dumb people" is true after all.
