I cast for my 9mm and for 45 Colt and 45 auto. I use Lee dies to take out the flare and lightly crimp all three. My cases are all flared more for lead than copper plated or fmj. I do crimp very lightly for these types also but more for consistency than preventing bullet movement. A light tapered crimp on straight walled, rimless rounds aids in feeding and won't comprimise head spacing. Never roll crimp these is what I have been taught as it can affect head spacing.

A roll crimp on the auto rounds will stuff up headspace totally mate...the auto rounds headspace on the case mouth so they should never be roll crimped.

On straight walled revolver cases I would roll crimp, nice and snug for heavy magnum loads and light for target loads depending on the load. Only target loads I would crimp fairly tight were those using a 124gn 9mm Conical cast bullet in a .357 case.

Not all seating dies have the crimp feature.......... however they still iron out the flare !!!

With lead I use a separate die to iron out the flare/crimp.
I found my 9mm load to have better consistency (chronograph) with a light amount of crimp applied.
