Just got back from NY. While there I took an interest in what the uniformed officers were carrying. Seems they have all gone to 9mm and I saw Sigs, Glocks and another pistol I couldn't identify. While waiting for a tour bus I was asking a older officer about the city when I glanced down and noted that he had a revolver. I took a chance and mentioned I was an avid shooter and noticed he was the only officer I had seen not carrying a semi. He said there were still a few who were grandfathered and could choose to keep their service revolver. I didn't want to appear too interested so I didn't ask about caliber or make but I am assuming 38 special and probably Colt or S&W.
Later I met a retired officer who was doing security at the Rockefeller Tower. I related the story to him and he confirmed a few chose to stay with the revolver. I asked him what happened to all the surplus revolvers. With about 38 thousand police that is a lot of guns. He told me, as far as he knew, they were destroyed. I wonder if that is the norm for all the police departments?

Every once in a while I see service Glocks sold for about $350. I haven't seen any this year.

I have a dealer near me that gets department Glock buy backs and sells them for about $400 depending on the condition of the night sights. I bought two Glock 22's (40SW) and a Glock 23 (45 ACP) this way. Also has South American police Taurus 81 in 38spl for $200. I bought one of those all ugly and beat up but man does it shoot.

I doubt very much they were destroyed. At my local gun store awhile back, they had Glocks and Kahr K9 pistols that were from New York police departments. Departments in Pennsylvanya and Ohio also sell their used. guns.

I'm aware of departments that give the officer first chance to purchase.....others do bulk trade in deals to purchase the new weapons !!!

He ain't alone in having witnessed some history on this board.
Anyone who used a history book would know that the Apollo mission capsule used switches and not dials. The switches had safety covers on them too.
I used to have one of the same kind of computers that got the first astronauts to the moon - but mine had 64 K RAM instead of the original 16 K. (I ungraded mine in 1979)
