keep an eye out for locally casted slugs. there are about 4 guys that sell them in all sorts of calibres over here so you should be spoilt for choice.

Ya got me really thinking about this one Joe !!!

Was looking through the SlugsRus site and they say the sabots can also be used with most .50 cal bullets.

Looking forward to seeing your results !!!

And the light fields Very Happy . The only data they gave me with the lightfields was with green dot. The lightfields are 20 grains lighter and a hollow point design otherwise almost identical ( including the sabot ) 40 grains of blue dot was a average load for the SPW slugs so Im going to use the same data for the lightfields. There is very little info for these types of slugs. I guess ill have to experiment some Very Happy

Those roll crimps look great Joe...you done good mate.

Not sure about loading for rifled barrels and slugs, but I use Promo for my smooth bore loads and it is great, and inexpensive.

I would imagine that a sabot and slug would be no different to a big bullet, so I would weigh the sabot and slug and research load data for a bullet of that weight...then go conservative until performance and safety is established. Also, both GD and BD are shotgun powders, so that leads me to think other shothun powders are worth considering. Having said that, the Alliant powders are great, so both Green Dot and Blue Dot should work well.

I used to load swaged lead round balls for my 20 ga. I glued a wad base to the round ball to provide stabilization and they worked pretty well. I chrono'd them at 1630 fps but I would have to look the load up for the specifics. My brother and I did something similar with cast round balls for the 12 ga. We cast them with a "hollow point" and inserted a lead plug that held a streamer to stabilize them. They were deadly accurate inside 120 yards but a lot of work to make.

Not sure when Ill get to shoot them chambered. They cycle just fine Elvis Very Happy I'm shooting them in a rem 1100 semi .. Vince the data seems to be hull specific, different powder weights for different hulls with the same bullet. The data I have is for cheddite 2 3/4 hulls so there the hulls I bought. The info that came with the sabots listed 4 powders / Green dot in a low recoil load / Herco / IMR 4756 and Blue dot. The blue dot showed 1550 fps at 40 grains as a average load and is available so it got the nod Very Happy I'm hoping the lightfields shoot well I like the hollow point. I'm thinking about a drill press I can get one cheap but the lowest speed is 760 rpm they recommend 200-300 rpm . Not sure yet..

I use my cordless drill mate...the speed us easier to regulate with the trigger rather than having to rely on the gearing in my drill press.

I just did a few with the drill press. I preset my depth with a shell that was already done . They came out very consistent 2.412-2.415 overall. The ones I did with the cordless look good but not quite as consistent I sprayed a little silicone on a Q tip and ran it around the outside of the shell first and then used the press ( it did very well Very Happy ). I wont load anymore until I shoot these and compare them ( bullets and crimps)
