Very Happy Tremblay-I have one.The choke tubes are short and only measure 1.5"long top to bottom.The top-of course has the slots for the choke wrench
along with having a "hashmark"identifier for the choke types located between two of the slots for the choke wrench.As follows;no hash mark=open cylinder,1 hashmark=improved cylinder,2 hashmarks=modified,and 3 hashmarks=full.When looking at ruger chokes stand the choke tubes on a table with the choke wrench slots on top-the threads will be on the bottom of the choke tube far away from the wrench slots.I say this only because I have had them in my trap bag and stupidly(on my part)had them mixed with other manufacturers chokes from other guns on other days!Be sure to keep them greased for easy removal.Hope this helps!

Maybe it's easier as we know it over here:
0 = cylinder
1 = 1/4 choke
2 = 1/2 choke
3 = 3/4 choke
4 = full

but on italian chokes it's often right the opposit going from 1 = full to 4 = 1/4 or improved cylinder.

It will help you when you measure, but you will be sure when you take your cartridge of choise, shoot at paper at the distance of choise and count the holes/evaluate the pattern.

Or you might try it my way: just use the gun, shoot that pigeon and your friend will lead the pellets when he wants you to get it. When you miss it means he likes to keep that pigeon for himself.
Remember that song: "You never walk alone!" and you still will have a lot of good moments with your friend because it's his gun you're taking out now that he cann't do that anymore...

ruger-docs.s3.amazonaw...rUnder.pdf

Here's a manual, look at the parts list for chokes and markings.

Hmmm, I get a PDF file of the manual...

For the 12 ga Red Label:
1 slot = Improved
2 slots = Modified
3 slots = Full
4 slots = Extra-Full

which doesn't mean you shouldn't shoot your paper when you want to know performances. A longer barrel can give more velocity, more velocity often doesn't like a narrow choke. Same thing with small pelletsize that listen to a choke better than coarse pellets, so what works for coarse can be over-choked for fine pellets (and you could loose your tight pattern again).
Shotgunbarrels are a science on their own and just need some time and effords from its user to make him (or her) a real scientist Smile

I agree so I'll just have to play with it.
