My wife drew a coveted "once in a lifetime" Mt Goat tag this year after 17 years of applying. We have many things all lined up for this hunt and are quite excited for it.
Yesterday my wife got a letter from the DWR, stating they intend to start helicopter capturing / transplanting Mt Goats in her unit... starting THREE DAYS before the hunt starts.
Seriously, what kind of government moron do they have responsible for this kind of planning? I really want to punch somebody...!

That hunt is tough enough without a helo messin things up. A once in a lifetime tag too.....get on the phone and yell foul, maybe they can move your tag to next year or some other time when they're not scattering and spooking the goats. Sheesh that's just plain ridiculous on their part!
I got a deer tag this year for an area that now requires a $300 permit to hunt there. They announced it after the tag purchase deadline. No big loss, compared to yours, that really is just stupidity on the part of DWR and they should compensate you somehow, once in a lifetime doesn't happen twice unless you're Buddhist.....no offense intended...please get on the phone and yell foul....nuthin to loose...

You would think a letter to the State should help coordinate events. Maybe the greenies wanted to get their pick first.

They have used helicopters in Washington to round the elk up and move them to Rainier Park for years - always just before hunting season and then they place feed to hold them there.
I thought that was the way all game management was done...

go anyway..they wont get them all and may even push them into an easier position..the way your good lady shoots she may just fill her tag despite the odds...we have plurry choppers to contend with all the year around the animals arent dumb and soon learn how to avoid them. at end of day you will get out and have quality time on the hill...far better to be hunting on it than buried under it.

now when you see what the Ukraniars can do with just 1 missile...
it might give better results than just a punch...
but here they say that when you don't shoot you surely miss, so I have to agree with Elvis...
and remember Galand's words: just do, don't try!

Dallan had to chuckle at that, probably a rhetorical question, still thanks for the laugh.
Sorry about the hunt being compromised, I'd still go and I hope your wife will, with the goats watching for helo's maybe they be less cautious and move more. Anyway, good luck to your wife.
What's DWR, Department of Wildlife Rationing?
Is this round-up a State or Federal program?

Division of Wildlife Resources (animals, hunting, fishing etc).
We also have DNR: Division of Natural Resources (parks, land etc).
Every state has some sort of acronym for their depts.

Utah may (or you may) devise another acronym for the DWR. Downright Wretched Rangers...as a for-instance...

Dallan - just read your article on the hunt - way cool! One question - how did you get stuck riding the mule? What a great looking goat - hats off to the little lady - that will look great on the wall. Never ate Mtn Goat - how does it taste?

Lol... he had 2 mules and a well broke pony. My wife got the pony, I got this mule... the guide rode the *BIG* mule. Overall, the mule wasnt so bad, but that pony was one sweet horse. It LOVED to be in the lead, my mule wanted to hang back but want bad otherwise. The big mule was quite stubborn and the guide had some issues with him off and on.
Overall it worked out ok. I'd never own a mule but I certainly wish I had the ground to have a few horses.
As for the Mt Goat, it was great. Kindof like milder mule deer meat. I thought it might be closer to Antelope meat (which we also like). But overall, its good stuff.
