I got lucky to have had a fun successful time with my boy this morning on a antlerless management hunt he had a tag. Got up, hiked into a spot we'd glassed elk, got lucky with some that crossed the opposing hillside at 340 yards. Got him set up on steadystix, patiently waiting for one to stop broadside then *bang!* He hit it great, the 160grn accubond out of his 7mm08 did crazy damage in there, it looked like a bomb went off.

Good times, big smiles all around. One more hunt and then I'm going to hibernate for a month... getting too old for this lol. Elk are just too big to manage easily. This one had to be around 550 to 600lbs on the hoof. Dropped it off to the butcher, they are too big to cut up at home.

Congrats! Dallan, you making me green with envy! I hope I have 1/4 of the success that you and your family have had this hunting season. But don't stop on the account of me.

Its super stressful. I really do act like a guide, trying to get them on the animals... think of everything, do anything to get us an advantage. Some is luck, some planning... some of it like the elk aren't as difficult as you would think (his specific tag is for a specific private property with an overabundance of elk that damage that property). Doing a cow elk hunt in the national forest would be much harder.

Once again your young fella has starred mate. Your family is hunting like champions this year Dallan. How long before you get your turn mate?

Well this elk tag was offered to me, I told them to put my boys name on it. I only have 1 tag this year for deer, filled it a week or two ago with my muzzleloader at 70 yards. Decent sized meat buck is all, nothing fancy.

Your a good man Dallan.. The time and the lessons your teaching him now will give him a life time of pleasure.. I'm so grateful my dad took the time to do the same with me..

What, no picture?!?!? I for one would enjoy another picture illustrating your hunting success for this year.
