I have bin getting after it trying to get a deer this year without much success . Our new lease has a 8 point or better rule for bucks witch me being a meat hunter 1st bothered me a little but I figured I would get plenty of chances at does . I have had to pass up 6 smaller bucks in early muzzle loader at 30-50 yds no doe's in range only saw 3 so far this year. Had to pass up 2 smaller bucks in archery 20yds. I saw one doe close enough and screwed it up . Our gun season started last Saturday and have seen 2 deer all week both small bucks and one out of range and I'm driving 82 mile's round trip. So this new lease has turned out to be a bust . I got fed up and headed to the small spot I hunted last year saw 4 doe and this guy . My freezer is empty It feels good to put one in it.. Finally

Thanks guys .. I would guess 180lbs I no he was a pain in the a## to get in the truck by my self ... Used my rem 788 in .308 with hand loaded 150 grain nosler accubonds . He's in the cooler box Ill skin and cut him in the morning and I guess ill take the head to the taxidermist . I hate spending money (lol)

That's hunting. Sometimes it takes 5 minutes, sometimes it takes 5 years or never get it at all...

An honnest? When I should get the opportunity to get such a nice buck, I would probably forget to shoot... I seem to have a thing going with large deer bucks. Does and calves no problem, but as soon as antlers are showing something or someone blocks my triggerfinger. So I made up my mind to stay with roebucks and shoot some more to get the same weight...

I wont renew the lease there next year I don't think any of the guy's I'm in with want to. We will look for another one . If the next one has the antler restrictions and is as far a way as this one I may not . I'll have to see. I didn't think the antler restriction would be a big deal but it turned out to be. I figured I could load up on a few doe's for meat and then maybe get a big buck . Seldom do things work out like we think when it comes to hunting . But with the cost of the lease + fuel cost +time in travel+ not seeing doe's + passing up meat bucks this one just turned out to be a bummer. We still have a week of rifle and then 2 weeks of late muzzle loader so I may try there again ( its paid for ) my vac is up so I only have limited time now..
