Nah, not bored Slim...well maybe a little. Had a couple of skin cancers cut out yesterday and one of the was fairly sizable on the back of my calf, so I can't move around much 'cause it hurts like buggery. burr

Yeah, I know BB, you're right mate. I think they sorta put this thing together (the concrete on the bottom doesn't look set yet), threw a few bits of wood in and fired it up for the sake of the pic. If it was me cooking, I would get a really good bed of hot coals inside, place the camp oven on top, then pull some of the coals out to go on the camp oven lid.

Wonder if that's purpose-built or a store bought pipe. I've seen those rocket stoves but never used one, it seems the wood fire is so far away from the cooking pot that you would need to keep a pretty hot fire going all the time but that's to keep the emissions cleaner. They build these things for third world countries here in Oregon. Well not the same thing.....

here's an interesting article from my neck of the woods.

The pipe section is a purpose built item Suz...but not for a stove...it is a piece of terracotta pipe that is used for sewerage or storm water. The hole where the fire is burning is actually a junction point in the pipe.

The fire you see is too far away, but once you get a nice hot bed of coals in there the heat would be tremendous. Remember, you don't actually want a roaring fire for camp oven cooking, just a good steady constant heat source like a bed of hot coals.

Thats a Rocket stove!
Very efficient stove.
Definitely no slow cooking there.

Geland,
You can slow cook with any flame - if you can get far enough away and keep it burning for long enough. Trying to slow cook with a rocket stove is a lot like trying to slow cook with a blow torch.
